You probably voided your warranty when you scaped the TIM off the heatsink with a screw driver. They will probably figure that out. Shouldn't this post have been in Motherboards 'cause it has nothing to do with the current topic?

There is nothing wrong with using AS5 at all...

There isn't all that much right with it either:

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware...-Interface-Shootout-ftopict221751.html

Sure, it's better than generic TIM that comes with stock HSFs and the like, but there are better products out there (like Ceramique). Some folks prefer STG-1, some folks like MX-1/Shin-Etsu G-751, some like X23, some want liquid pro. Bottom line is they're all at least a bit better than AS5. If you're going to take the time to lap the IHS, you may as well squeeze out a bit more cooling performance by using a better-than-average TIM. I can't blame anyone for avoiding liquid pro, though, because it can cause rapid oxidation of aluminum (which is bad) and can ruin motherboards (which is also bad).

Who cares? 2-4 degrees? common

and you linked to Toms hardware? don't make me laugh

Anyhow AS5 is available everywhere for very little money. It works fine.

yeah but if you had a choice, what would you get?

PS: i found a supplier that supplies shin etsu X23. 2 bottles for 14 dollars shipped.

He's a great guy, fast shipping, and fast communication. i highly recomend buying from him, if you need TIM.

Thought I read that shin etsu X23 literally bonds your HS to your chip over time making removing/reseating the HS next to impossible without destroying or breaking the two pieces. I can't find the link now, but some guy reported he killed his motherboard trying to remove the HS from the chip because he didn't know better and ripped it out of the socket with the lever locked. Can anyone confirm this?

I have read that about Coolaboratory Liquid Pro, but not X23. People have said that about AS Ceramique as well, though others refute that claim.

Yeah, I just came across a post about the ASC doing it. Just use AS5 is my advice. That stuff does not fuse even years later in my experience.

Well, the thing is, Ceramique doesn't fuse as people have claimed. There have been some damaged s754 and s939 processors from people removing HFSs bonded to the IHS via AS5. It does get pretty thick and can yank the CPU out of the socket if you aren't careful. I would think that most TIMs produce about the same effect. Liquid Pro is reportedly even worse.

@swtethan: Congrads! Did you take any pics along the way? Also, give that AS5 some time to "breakin" and I'll bet they drop an additional 2-3 °C.

i concede. I'm reading stg1 beats the pants off of as5, and as5 was beaten by Ceramique. you can get a 3.5gram bottle of stg1 with the brush applicator @ circuitcity. Is stg electrically safe? I'm going to take off my a8n32-sli deluxe heatpipe, lap the three connecting parts (should i do anything to the nb and sb chips?), and probably get a tube. Either that or rma my board on grounds that a usb port doesn't work (which it does not)

u talking about the zalman stg1?

because its not that great. Its okey, but not super great.

This test has been done 3 times. Once on pcperspectives, another on toms hardware, and LASTLY on Xtremesystems.org

ALL 3 of them proved 1 thing in there comparision.

Shin Etsu = #1
AC MX-1 = #2
AS5 = #3

And im not including the coolits liquid metal pro. Because that thing will eat though aluminum, will also BOND to your heatsink after time, and can get very very tricky to apply correctly. So i dont recomend this stuff at all.

Anyone have a link to the official instructions or a guide for the correct application of X23-7783D to a C2Q or C2D?
