... why do we insist on stooping down to third-world levels of hatred to get our points across? Looking through these threads I see comments supporting the Qu'ran burnings, about not allowing mosques to be built until churches are built in Saudi Arabia, "Everyone Draw Muhammad Day," etc. If you feel that you as a Christian American are so much better than these people, why do you support the very same hatred these "lesser people" support? Shouldn't America be an example of freedom and tolerance?
Because you can't judge an entire country on a handful of people.

The Jews were tolerant all the way into the gas chambers and then they were incinerated. This is what happens to the tolerant! Have you learned nothing from history?

I believe that's called a straw man argument. The Jews under Hitler's third reich were rounded up at gunpoint and shipped to death camps. The "tolerence" wasn't voluntary in any way. The only ones talking about that kind of action are wingnut bigots like Marg Baker, Republican candidate for the Florida state Legislature, who advocates rounding up all illegal aliens and shipping them off to interment camps. 😱

Florida Republican: Put immigrants in "camps"

State GOP candidate wants to "ship them out to the middle of the country and put up high walls"

In an interview with Salon today, a Republican candidate for the Florida state Legislature stood by her controversial idea to arrest illegal immigrants and send them to "camps" where they can be held en masse.

"We can ship them out to the middle of the country and put up high walls and leave them there," said Marg Baker, the middle-aged real estate broker vying for the Republican nomination in the state's 48th district, north of Tampa.

Baker was filmed advocating the camps idea at a local meeting of the 9-12 Project, Glenn Beck's activist group, earlier this month (watch the clip below). She told Salon today that she was upset at the way some had misinterpreted her comments. "They're trying to think I want to erect some sort of prison camps like over in Germany" -- which she is not, Baker said.

Asked if what she had in mind was more like the Japanese internment camps of the World War II era, Baker said, "something like that. But unfortunately in the Japanese camps they detaineed American citiziens. The only ones I want to detain are the ones who are illegal."

She added, "You've gotta have places for them to eat and sleep and breathe fresh air. It can be a tent city ... You don't want to make them too comfortable or they'll want to come back."

Is it really asking too much to ask for a muslim country to allow christian churches if they want to build mosque's in the United States. All we are asking is for freedom of religion in all countries. If that is not allowed then we are just allowing invaders that want to kill all non-muslims a foothold in the United States. Are you so stupid you can not see that? We should treat foreigners in our country using the laws of their country, if that is too harsh they can leave. So we should not allow Saudia Arabia to build their racist Mosques in the United States.

Yes, it IS asking too much to ask a muslim country to allow christian churches if they want to build mosque's in the United States. We can only enact laws and maintain control over the our own nation. We have no have jurisdiction and no control over the laws and practices of other nations.

We can proclaim our principles to the world and offer them as a model for others to follow, but if we betray those principles instead of abiding by them and upholding the Constitutional rights of all of our citizens, we are a nation of hypocrites, and we have no right or reason to expect anyone in any other nation even to consider following the principles we betray by our own actions.

This is a simple one..America is not the greatest country in the world
Just look at the topics posted here and the replies within

America is still the greatest. I can move pretty much anywhere in EU having dual citizenship with USA and Sweden since I was like 3..I guess I could move to Africa or Asia too but I would not want to live anywhere else no matter how much I bitch. There are freedoms here I really like and people are pretty optimistic. Are there bad? Uh yeah - I post about them a lot but all told I would not move anyplace else and I've been to more countries than you have been US states.

This. I make no secret of my distaste for religion, Islam being especially virulent, but I believe our founders were learned men and our Constitution the most perfect document I've ever seen to the degree it's followed and we must respect freedom of religion as long as there is no conflict with the former and rule of law.

You should get out more if you think an internet forum is way to judge a country.

Oh no, I know that most normal Americans are not sitting here posting on a message board 24/7. And then you could even break that down some more by saying a computer geek message board with a lot of the members rarely socializing with real life people.

But the topics are American news

Why does the left hate the right so much.

Why does the right hate the left so much.

Because they're two distinct people who have no business living together who, by a Union, are forced to do so. Apparently no one ever heard of a divorce to solve this predicament.

So like a wife who cannot leave an abusive husband, you've got the Left and Right.

I still wonder if xjOhnx and piasabird are serious posters or seriously droll parody posters. If the former, they are paragons of cognitive dissonance; if the latter, they are masters of irony.

QFT! If you, as an American, feel you're better than everyone.. show them by not going against what you preach from the pulpit.

We are the best for 3 simple reasons.
1. Natural Resources and plentiful stolen lands.
2. A overly large military to keep the third world our slaves for cheap shit to afford our first world lifestyle.
3. Money to dictate who and what shall serve our "best interests of the country". Best interests means the top one percent. Everyone else can pretend the top one percent will let them into their little club while acting superior to the world. Suckers.

:Sniffle: :sniffle: :'(

Why would you think that? Be specific please.

First of all you are narrow minded to focus purely on religious people. Second of all, you unintelligently focus on individuals -period- in that bilious, Jerry Springer manner of discussion, when the real issue is the social/cultural ideals of the people at large. Your comment, like the original post, is simplistic and undisguised vilification.

Although I sense you are a twit, I fully agree with the bigger idea (and the one you should be arguing) that the world will learn much more from our example, not our impositions. But Harvey's range is limited as well... it is not only a constitutional problem. Things can "unAmerican" but not unconstitutional. Like the torture issue, and trying to define torture. What we do may be constitutional, but is it right? I would argue that some of what we have done is not us. It's not who we are as a people...

In education there's a popular poster that says something like "Character is what you do when nobody is looking." What is our national character? Do we take actions we know in our gut are wrong yet base it on the fuzzy edges of constitutional jurisprudence? When teaching, we all know how important modeling is... you can't just tell people something and expect them to "get it", you must SHOW it. America cannot just tell the world things, we must do it. To finish with the education theme in this paragraph, I often get the dumbest, most useless questions and I try hard to pull some learning out, guide the discussion, and turn it into something a bit more meaningful. Hopefully I have done that to some extent with this POS op.

If the christian population of the US was replaced with mulsims do you think the left would embrace them or hate them like they do christians?

If the christian population of the US was replaced with mulsims do you think the left would embrace them or hate them like they do christians?

That's only three absurd propositions in one question. 🙄

1. The probability that Christian population will be replaced with Muslims is somewhere between none and less than that, at least within your lifetime.

2. You present no factual basis for your assertion that "the left" (an amorphous, undefined designation) "hates" all Christians (another amorphous, undefined designation).

If you don't think so, please define your terms, and prove whatever point you think you're making with facts.

Yes of course, but we are actually no better than they are. Americans are no longer Americans and have become third world assholes. This is what fear does to cowards. Every simpering idiot who has no real faith in his principles needs everybody else to die in case they might harm him or point up how fearful he is. Most Americans today have devolved into garbage and fodder for the Republican party which loves them that way.

Say Islam is bad, get a vote. America has been captured by swine.

Why do you hate people in the developing world so much? Not only an asshole, but a third world asshole? There is so much subtle bigotry in your posts.

How does the Democrat party love them?

So.... we are pretty much the same as all the other "best nations" that came before us?

And whats all this about "keeping the third world our slaves"? Last I checked we are improving the lives of a shitton of Chinese folk who otherwise would never have had that opportunity and our .mil didn't have a damned thing to do with it. It was our money nor our military. I will cede that it allows us to exploit other nations natural resources so that we don't have to exploit our own but those nations are more than happy to take our money for those resources. Think of it as protecting our trade routes but it is hardly making them our slaves. At this point, I honestly think it is quite the opposite actually.

As far as the top 1%, I would probably call it the top .1% or maybe even the top .01% but in all fairness they fuck us as much as they fuck "them". I really haven't found a way around the "golden rule" either.

If America is so great why does it continually trade instead of sanction countries like Saudi Arabia based on their human rights record who in turn take the billions in oil revenue to promote their version of Islam.

With friends like this who needs enemies?

http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/zforum/01/tv_frontline111601.htm

Shouldn't America be an example of freedom and tolerance by boycotting these type of nations like it did with South Africa until they decide to change?

And how does lumping all Christians (let alone your false assumption America is a Christian not a Secular nation) together make you any different than those who do the same with Islam.

To a point. There comes a point where enough is enough, and they can destroy us.
