Do you declare that you have a CCP when you get pulled over? My instructor told me that was the smart thing to do even when you weren't carrying.

why declare you have a ccw if you dont have a gun on you or in the car?

what id the officer asks to see your gun?

Depends on if I'm in a hurry. I have nothing to hide whatsoever so if I'm not in a hurry he can knock himself out. If I'm in a hurry, I might say no to avoid the time sink. If he delays me more after that then I at least have something worthwhile to tell the person I kept waiting.

Terrible reply. You waive your 4th amendment right to privacy if you consent. If you don't, at least you have shot at an illegal search and seizure argument.

I was assuming that I didn't have anything illegal in the car. If I was, I wouldn't be pulled over.

how does a ccw = get out of ticket card???

I've heard this from several other people too, but haven't had to test it out yet. Maybe it's because it shows you are a red blooded American who takes his gun rights seriously?

As soon as he runs your license he's going to know you have a CCP, then he's going to be sitting in his car wondering if you are carrying. The reasoning is that by letting him know from the start that you have a CCP but you weren't carrying you avoid the tense situation of where he has to decide whether to call for back up, tell you to get out of the car with your hands up, or just walk back and ask if you are armed.

I'm sure it does other things as well. First it covers you in case you had your gun in the car just in case you somehow forgot you left one in there. Second it's a quick comment to show honesty on the front end and that you probably have nothing to hide / won't be hassled.

Hell I just made those up.

I dont know, I got nothing to hide. Depends if I am in a rush or not.

Probably not. Since I dont want to have all my tools taken out and my car taken a part for no reason.

oh and I ever am told to get out of my car, Close the window and lock the door.

If you "forgot you left one in there" then you deserve having your CCW revoked. How the hell do you forget where your guns are??

I'd give a hard time for a minute, then just tell them to go. There's one manual, 5 burned CDs, one air freshener, a squeegee and a snow brush.

I always read online how people will say to always say no but honestly I don't know how many situations these people have been in, because in my experience, the cop will search the vehicle no matter what you say if they want to search it.

Then you take note of their badge number and report them.

This is why I bury the dead hookers in my trunk under piles of huge spiked dildos....let them look trough that....

I did get asked once if a cop could search my car..

I got 99 problems but the bitch aint one!

Yup. If they want to be dicks, they'll call for dogs, but if the dogs don't turn anything up, or aren't "made" to turn anything up, they can't search.

The hell they can't. One of my co-workers got pulled over coming into work back in '06, they asked if they could search his car, he said no, they pulled him out of the vehicle, zip-tied him and put him face first on the curb while they tore his vehicle apart. He had zero criminal record and obviously wasn't carrying anything, early-20s Indian computer geek. They broke several things on his vehicle and they zip tied him so tight that he had marks on his wrists for several days.

I don't know if they had a false tip, bad indigestion from eating indian food, or what, but they were total pricks, made him almost 2 hours late to his shift, but at least we were able to see why he was late.

For me, the best answer is "It depends."

They're not going to ever find anything contraband, but I also believe I have the right to stand up for my Constitutional rights...however, I say "It depends," because if I say No, and the cop wants to search it, he's going to either invent probable cause and search it anyway, OR, he's going to call in for a warrant...and search it anyway.
If I have nothing better to do than waste my day while they do that, then, fuck em...get a warrant. I'll wait.
Otherwise, if I have something that I'd rather be doing than sitting in the back of a squad car for several hours, then I'll probably let them go ahead and search the damned thing.

I'd have pressed illegal search charges. I've been asked if they could search the car, and I told them no. When I was asked for a reason, I said do to principle, and that was it.

I admire your principles, but that's a dangerous thing to try to do these days. There's a collection of secretly recorded videos of what happens when you try to request something as basic as a complaint form, and it shows TONS of verbal abuse, physical intimidation, threats, and so on. Cops do not want to have anything to do with anything remotely like taking a complaint seriously against a fellow officer, and how do you think you're going to get an illegal search prosecuted? The best case scenario you can hope of is your abuse being videotaped and getting the ACLU involved.

That said I believe most cops are decent people, I hope I never find myself in a situation where I get my rights trampled on.

No. And it isn't a problem here because our police aren't ridiculously corrupt like the police force in some parts of the US.

Yes. I've got nothing to hide and I'm not about to make my day any more painful and/or annoying than it needs to be just to make a point.

I've never been asked, but in the event that it happened, I'd probably consent, purely in the interest of time. considering how frequently cars get stolen, it seems like a pretty shitty place to hide something.
