Any of the pizza places that I order from here are within maybe 1/2 mile of me. There's no way in hell that I'm gonna drop more than a buck or two on a tip, and only then because it's become some sort of social norm. It's yet another way that the damn tipping mentality has pervaded our culture
It used to be you would tip someone to insure good service (translation: -beforehand-)
Say I order a small pizza ($5 for the sake of argument) he delivers. I tip maybe a buck.
Why, for the love of all that is holy, should I bump the tip up solely because the bill is more expensive? So I buy 2 larges, it gets over $20. He's carrying 2 slightly larger boxes up the steps instead of just one. Big deal.
It's not my responsibility to pay the driver's wage. If the pizza places owners want to "assume" that people will get tipped well, that's a problem between the owner and the driver, not me. That being said, I've never stiffed a driver.
