All you need to eke out a living and to not have to work another day - is to have 1 million dollars in the bank. That means if you get a lump sum it'd need to be like 1.4mill or whatever the tax is.

If you make just 3% on that million - your income will be $30,000 per year.

Grab a roomate that works and play PS3 all day and live like Kramer.

Now since in the real world, NOBODY with a million makes only 3% on it. You easily stay ahead of inflation.
