I'm liking this update and have switched to it as my primary browser. I barely used IE7 before but as far as rendering pages goes, it does seem faster than Firefox. Scrolling on certain websites (ex: FiringSquad, UltimateAVMag) that always gave Firefox hiccups is gone. Together with the IE7Pro add-on (I had it installed and it works fine) for blocking Ads, this makes a good solution. And it's proven to be stable so far. No crash to desktop yet. At most, a tab will recover and refresh automatically.

I'm impressed.

I'm not going to go as far as to make it my primary browser yet. It is still beta after all and FF still supports the extensions I like. It is much faster at rendering pages than IE7 and slightly faster than FF 3.

I am glad to hear IE7Pro works with it. I uninstalled it before switching to IE8 just in case it might cause problems. I am going to reinstall it now that it looks like it will play nicely with IE8.

I personally feel that IE8 beta 1 is much more buggier than IE7 beta 1. I stuck with IE7 beta 1 through the final without going back to IE6 but right now I went back to IE7. There are a lot of rendering problems with IE8.

You'll also find that there is an actual scrolling problem on certain pages.

Google Reader doesn't render properly and it also has problems when scrolling within IE8.

I wish they would release an IE6 skin for IE7/8.

Personally I hate the new layout, and would much rather have the old interface with the tabs and security.

I agree 100%.
Microsoft's own web site http://oem.microsoft.com
won't allow logging in, unless a "supported browser" is used. So, I uninstalled IE 8 beta 1 and returned to IE 6.

hmmm,
installed it. but when i went on msn, no hotmail available, and the roadmap thingy, which used to sit in a box all well behaved, suddenly decided to take up most of the screen.
so, it's off again

edit:
had to do a system restore to get rid of it, but, after i did, hotmail was back again and the road map thingy was back in it's place, well behaved 🙂
