Whoa, I like how this handles a browser crash.
Youtube keeps failing

Edit: And the search-box in the forums' sidebar doesn't render correctly. Fusetalk Search Box

I do like the address bar and how the domain (ex. anandtech.com) appears in normal font and the rest of it is in light gray font (it returns to normal when you mouseover). It also seems to work like the Firefox 3 Beta where the browser searches through your Favorites folder as you start typing a URL for a match.

BTW, there's an 'Emulate IE7' prominently displayed next to the Tools button. You have to close and restart the browser to enable it. I did and it fixed the 'Search' box rendering error. 😀

I'm not sure how foolproof the 'Emulate IE7' option is (in case the regular mode messes up a critical site for someone) but it seems like might get the job done without having to restore back to IE7.

Highlighting text brings up an Activity Menu and it's customizable.

Has anyone noticed how much faster pages render compared to Firefox 3 and IE 7? It is even faster in Emulate IE7 mode.

It certainly launches real quick and I see two instances in Task Manager instead of one. Someone run some quick stability tests: try to open the Facebook/MySpace profile of a teenage girl.

I'm not too sure about rendering speed. It might just be a placebo effect (ooh, new, shiny!). It might take a while before I know for sure.

I see they've included a favourites bar, which was one of my most liked features in firefox, so an improvement there.

Still lacks skinning support and the thousands of extensions that make firefox so good though. 🙂

I've noticed that these very forums don't render correctly in IE8.

Reverting back into Emulate IE7 mode fixes things.

It installed over IE7 for me. XP Pro with SP2.

I am loving it although of course it has its bugs. I love the features that they've implemented. It's finally on par with FireFox. As long as they can work out the kinks, it will be all good.

IE8 unfortunately does not work with my work's webpage which is used to keep track of a lot of things. I'm going to go back for now 🙁

Seems very, very fast in IE7 emulation here. IE8 rendering speed is kinda slow and choppy, though.

Supposedly it passes the Acid2 test.

I tried it in IE7 Emulation mode, which was completely fucked up, and then standard IE8, and the smiley was mostly put together, but still had a small problem with the eyes and a text-box form showing up.

Hmm. I have vista 32 bit and it says IE8 is not supported by this operating system...

Do you have the RC of SP1 installed? IE8 only supports Vista 32 bit in RTM or SP1 RTM.

I wish they could make a few changes. The favorites/links toolbar should be separate. I would appreciate if the links toolbar was separate as I use it profusely and I use up the entire bar with folders and links that I frequently visit.

As of now, with IE7, I can hold several folders and links without having to click on the >> to see more.

With IE8, the folders now have down arrows indicating that there is something to expand. This takes up much more real estate than what it does now.

Also, the favorites icon/add favorites is taking up significant space as well.

I hope they fix this and make the favorites/links bar either separate or movable or even as customizable as to remove the favorites from the links toolbar.

I hope they do not do away with the links bar completely as I depend on that thing with my life.
