Wow, I don't get what was going through his mind to commit such a serious crime. Fly to another country and do something like this. Seriously we need to let him stay their and face his punishment.

You probably should added "North" in front of "Korea" in the thread title.

North Korea is what western propagandists call it. Their is the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, and the illegitimate puppet state to the south.

You know you might be remotely more skeptical of North Korean propaganda?

Basically he could have been easily simply coerced to say that without it being remotely accurate, and its not like North Korea doesn't have a history of making obvious bogus claims, such as Kim Jong-Il getting 11 holes-in-one in a single round of golf.
http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=7369649

While he was an idiot to go North Korea as a tourist in the first place, its not clear if he simply was not picked out for arrest for no particular reason by the North Korean government for effective use of him as a hostage.

Edit: Even if true obviously a reasonably person would assess the actual action he took (disregarding an implausible part of the confession) as realistically a minor prank ill conceived prank rather than a serious crime unless what he stole had obvious inherent monetary value.

Why in the world would any sane person go to North Korea for any purpose? It boggles the mind.

any american who goes to n.korea is a fucking moron

Dennis Rodman did pretty well for himself. As long as you are willing to promote their regime they will let pretty much anything slide. Im pretty sure Rodman did far worse stuff while partying and drinking in NK.

OMG!

Warmbier is accused of trying to steal a North Korean banner, containing a political slogan that was hanging from the walls of his Pyongyang hotel.

So serious.

Fuck North Korea, and fuck you for either trolling about it or being so stupid and self centered as to the reality there.

Honestly I'm at the point where I say anyone going to North Korea or Iran is an asshole who is begging for a problem.

At least Iran has good food and good looking women. And good music when the mullahs aren't around. North Korea has Alec Baldwin.

lol this sounds legit.

I never, never should have allowed myself to be lured by the United States administration to commit a crime in this country. I wish that the United States administration never manipulate people like myself in the future to commit crimes against foreign countries. I entirely beg you, the people and government of the DPRK, for your forgiveness. Please! I made the worst mistake of my life!"

DCal has issues. He is jealous of North Korean freedom.

EDIT: Oh look at his first response. :D

Just call him "the chin" and move on.

North Korea is Best Korea!

But seriously, anyone who goes to N.K. has no one to blame but themselves. It's like sticking your head in the open jaws of an alligator, then blame the alligator when he chomps down.
