... and turned right instead, from the left lane.

This is the result of my car.

Guy slowed down, after realizing what he just did, then I lost track of him, I thought he was stopping and he just kept going. In a way, might be better that way so I don't have to be involved in car crash politics. It's at a stupid area of town where it gets retardedly busy and the street is just very badly designed for the amount of traffic there, he was probably getting pissed off that he could not do his left turn so he changed his mind, and I was already in the right turn lane of the exit (both coming out of Wendy's).

Called the garage for a rough over the phone estimate and if they have to replace the whole headlight and do body work it could come up to like 2k. My dad works there, so I'm hoping it will be lower. They may not have to replace the whole headlight, I just asked as a worse case scenario to get an idea.

The truck that did that was a company truck, but I can't seem to find the business anywhere online. Most people in this town don't really have a website or any online references. It was some kind of machinery repair shop, ironicly. I was behind him at the drive thru. I just wish I had noticed more. Did not get a license plate number.

My main fear now is that since technically I left the scene of the accident too (what am I going to do, sit there and block traffic?), I hope I can't be charged given he left first. I'll be going to the garage Monday to get a real estimate.

The part I bolded above is part of the reason people do shit like this and just keep on going. Dude, seriously, why is it ok for a guy to trash your car and not do the responsible thing and take care of it. Are you serious? Damn, this pisses ME off and I don't even know you. Grow some damned balls. Contrary to popular belief in this Country, being a passive wuss is not always the best course of action.

Wat? You left without exchanging info??

How was he supposed to exchange info during a hit-and-run? Scribble it out on a piece of paper, wrap it around a rock, and throw it in the general fucking direction of the assailant who's driving away?

The guy left, so what was I suppose to do, just stay there?

And way I see it, if we had gone the right way, it would cost more in time, and money (insurance etc). I'm just pissed off this idiot got away with it though. But he probably has damage to his truck too and he's the one that caused the accident and left the scene.

I fixed it the best I could, and it's not half bad of a job for an old car. :p

Wow, you didn't handle this well at all.

First of all, he must have damage. You should have tried to ID his plate. If not, at least his color, make and model of his car. Pull over, put on your lights, and CALLED 911. Afterwards, a police report - and they WILL find the person who hit you, and you CAN press charges, including leaving the scene of an accident.

He would have been fucked, but now you are fucked (by insurance or out of pocket)...

Instead of following the truck and getting his license plate at least, so you could contact the police about a hit and run then get his insurance to pay, you're going to be paying for the accident out of your pocket and that's better?

Yes.

You call the police (a non-emergency number available in the first few pages of your local phone book, a number you should have in your cell phone) and report a hit-and-run.

They send an officer over to where your car is that you've left in exactly the same position you got hit in. He takes a report and you can use that report with your insurance agent.

This is yet another reason to GET THE FREAKIN LICENSE PLATE in any accident you're in. Locating and memorizing the license plate and make/model/color of the car should be damn near instinctual.

How? He was at fault.

You missed the point.

For all his insurance company knows, he took a hammer to his car to get the insurance money.

Just because you have insurance doesn't mean you'll automatically get free money.

Sorry to hear about your car.

I've had several near misses from a$$holes trying to turn into me. Thankfully (touch wood for good luck), I haven't had any one hit me.

I had a van hit me whilst I was driving my dad's car on a narrow country road. The van drove off and I couldn't turn around and chase after him. I only know it was a Pickford's removal van.

The only damage was a dented wing and a cracked front bumper, so it wasn't major (or costly) damage. I reported it to the cops immediately afterward, just in case he tried to make a claim against my insurance (I'm third party insured driving other people's cars). My dad didn't mind, since his car was an old banger anyway.

Any way, I would report it to the cops as a hit and run.

Wut? What are you talking about? Since the other driver was at fault, if the OP had a brain and had gotten his info, the OP's insurance company would have fought the other driver's insurance company to pay for the OP's repairs.

Actually it does. You pay a deductible if you're at fault, your premiums go up, but they pay for the repairs. If you're not at fault, the other person's insurance company pays or your insurance company subrogates and gets the money from the other guy's insurance company.

The problem is that he abandoned common sense practices to establish that he was not fault.

where the hell do you live that a non-injury accident gets a police response?
