I'd like to join Team AnandTech

I'd like to run something useful. Have a few SETI work units to my name, but I might like something new. I don't follow distributed computing much anymore -- what's out there? Folding@Home?

I'll throw in a plug for our Folding TeAm, it's a great community. We have lots of fun mini-challenges and some amazingly dedicated people. I got a ton of great advice from my TeAmmates when I started last year and have stuck with it ever since. We are currently in 25th place worldwide but some of our "power users" have really been ramping up lately and we are rapidly closing the gap on those ahead of us.

And then of course there's TA Sentinel, if you are looking to try out a bunch of different DC projects in rapid succession (a new one each month).

What's out there? A lot! Other worthy projects include Einstein@Home, climateprediction, and Muon1.

And I have to plug Seventeen or Bust since I'm the author of SBQueue. 🙂

I too will put my plug in for TAS. We a fun loving bunch who are trying out new projects trying to improve TeAm placement and involvement. You can find out more here

I'll put another vote for find a drug (F-a-D)

Its a great project, easy to run, and still small enough for a person to make a difference.

I really like that it is looking for cures to cancer hiv etc...

No matter where you decide, Welcome to TeAm Anandtech 😛

Mike

If you chooses BOINC, you'll have multiple choises of projects to run, you can choose only one or share between multiple projects if you so desires.
Currently you can run SETI@home, Einstein@home, CPDN and Predictor@home.
LHC@home is currently closed for new users, but should hopefully open up again soon.

Some other upcoming BOINC-projects includes:
Astropulse
BURP
Folding@home
Lattice
Planetquest

I run F@H and S@H but like Wolfsraider says you will be a welcome addition to any project you run with the TeAm!

I prefer health related projects so its F@H for me. I also run DIMES too although that project isn't popular with some.

My vote would be for Find-a-drug if my sig doesnt give that away. The last 2 years have been nasty as far as cancer taking friends away, this alows you to do something more than attend funerals. Several members of Team Anantech recently returned results that were shown in labs to have anti-cancer properties. Also there is HIV, Malaria, CJD, Lung Disease. Check this Anantech sub team out.

I have to put in my plug for Folding@Home. I have done it for over a year now and have not had any issues with it. It can be run on XP as a service so that it runs in the background as soon as you boot up and not even be conscious of it running. We are trying to help in research to find cures for Loug Gerig's diseas, Alzeimer's and various other diseases....a worthy cause.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Find-a-Drug seems like a good cause (my family has fought its battles with cancer, too), but I'd personally rather work on an academic project than one run by a private company. I think I'm going to run BOINC/Einstein@Home for now (I'm a physics major myself, so its interesting to me) and possibly switch over to Folding@Home when/if it gets incorporated into BOINC.

Good news for us, a BOINC client for F@H is in the works! I believe rattledagger is testing it right now🙂 We would love the help

Good for you tokamak. Whichever you decide to do, I'm sure the team will be happy to have you.
