The problem is that we didn't punish the confederacy in the same manner that post war Germany punished the Nazis.
MAGA has roots in the South, but I firmly believe it to be a whole new ideological beast. Born of modern fascist appeal. A Nazi Germany 2.0.

I tend to agree, but we wouldn't be here if the confederate (and follow ons) movement had been criminalized in similar ways to what Germany did.

We never finished Reconstruction, so Jim Crow was allowed to grow and fester, and we never finished off the Civil Rights Movement to bury Jim Crow forever and make up for incomplete Reconstruction, and we have the garbage today of neo-segregation.

Also worth remembering we do have foreign adversaries that have diligently and effectively been working to destabilize our country through social media, it will be hard to quantify how much this is radicalizing people. Stack that on with algorithms feeding people into a pipeline of hate, and the already extant group of fascists that have festered in this country for decades...

Protestors at local Walmart in Albuquerque because store let in ICE without a warrant to arrest workers. People are fighting back

The protests are correct.
ICE aren't the right kind of Americans to be allowed entry.

Heard on NPR today that newsom is pushing a bill that will say it is illegal for all law enforcement cannot cover their face
Such a law is good and valid for peace time.
I hesitate to think that still applies.

Don't want MAGA Nazis to know who our forces are either. Food for thought.

If it’s illegal for protesters to wear masks why do the police get to?

I feel like we can apply the logic when the people on the right when a police officer shoots a suspect in the back when they are running away from them. If they did nothing wrong why did they run

If they (ice agents) did nothing wrong why do they hide their face?

Note the only time I feel a police officer should have their face covered is when they are an undercover agent and don’t want their identity exposed. But also they should not be that situation probably..

For some strange reason ICE didn’t need masks during the Obama administration and he was the deporter in chief.

The methodology is incorrect. You have to attack them where they live.

Nothing will change, until citizens start picking up the children of these ICE monsters, and start "deporting" them.Just swing by their daycare, or school and drop them off on a container ship going... Anywhere.

MAGAts don't feel anything, until it affects them on a personal level.

It appears the Battle for Los Angeles is over—and Team Trump has been forced to scurry away with their little tail (wink wink South Park) between their legs.

Basically, this was all just an expensive PR stunt illegal deploying troops on US soil with almost nothing to show for it. What did they achieve?
- At least $134 million in costs (see last bullet)
- Lowered morale for bored National Guard troops with nothing to do but sleep on hard floors
- Lowered morale and support for LAPD and county forces providing support for raids
- Losing more than 10 points in national support for your immigration agenda over the 60 day deployment
- Scores of pissed off Angelenos and Californians
- Potentially dozens of civil lawsuits incoming…

On that last point, it seems that out of 26 protesters charged with assaulting ICE officers or impeding enforcement actions, nearly half have been dismissed thus far by prosecutors who’ve dealt with misfiled paperwork and false claims made by the government that were easily debunked with video. In the most high profile case, they couldn’t even get the defendant’s name right on the indictment.

These are not serious people, but they are seriously jeopardizing our freedoms.

Glad to see that we have all these prudent stewards of the US Treasury and other government functions in charge, making the soundest of financial and management decisions on behalf of the citizens of the United States. /s

Man arrested by ICE in Maine was working as Old Orchard Beach police officer

Police Chief said the Department of Homeland Security verified that Officer Evans was authorized to work in the U.S.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine —
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say a Jamaican national who has been in the United States without legal status for nearly two years has been working as a police officer in Maine.

Jon Luke Evans was arrested Friday in Biddeford by officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston after he unlawfully attempted to purchase a gun, according to officials.

Immigration authorities said Evans was employed as a reserve officer with the Old Orchard Beach Police Department.

In response to the detention, Old Orchard Beach Police Chief Elise Chard confirmed Evans was hired in May as a reserve officer as part of the town's seasonal policing efforts. Evans was required to complete a federal immigration and work authorization form, which was approved by the Department of Homeland Security, according to Chard.

“We are distressed and deeply concerned about this apparent error on the part of the federal government,” Chard said in a statement.

According to federal authorities, Evans admitted to ICE officers that he tried to purchase a gun for his employment as an Old Orchard Beach police officer.

The attempt to buy the firearm triggered an alert to agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who worked in coordination with ICE to make the arrest.

“Jon Luke Evans not only broke U.S. immigration law, but he also illegally attempted to purchase a firearm. Shockingly, Evans was employed as a local law enforcement officer,” ICE ERO Boston Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde said in a statement.

Authorities said Evans lawfully entered the United States at Miami International Airport in Florida on Sept. 24, 2023. He was scheduled to depart the country a week later but never boarded the flight. ICE said Evans violated the terms of his lawful admission to the United States when he overstayed his visa.

“Evans would not have been permitted to begin work as a reserve officer until and unless Homeland Security verified his status. The police department was notified that Evans was legally permitted to work in the U.S., and his I-766 Employment Authorization Document was not set to expire until March 2030,” Chard said.

According to Chard, reserve officers undergo firearm training and are equipped with department-issued weapons during their shifts. However, department policy prohibits them from taking these firearms home, requiring all issued weapons to be returned at the end of each duty period. Additionally, reserve officers are neither encouraged nor permitted to purchase or carry personal firearms while performing official duties.

Chard said the department intends to investigate what steps should be taken next.

It's just another case where the Federal government is doing a rug pull: making people who are here legally suddenly undocumented. It's cruelty, and it's almost certainly because DHS can't actually find enough people to deport (surprising no one); so beyond being filled with cruel psychopaths, they're also just trying to juice the deportation numbers with these shenanigans.
