256MB Corsair PC133 SDRAM
IBM 45GB GXP 2 mos old
IBM 30GB GXP 9 mos old
Win98SE/Win2K

Just recently upgraded my Win98 to SE from FE.

Soon after, my 30GB HDD started to make clicking sounds.

At the recommendation of my fellow forum friends (F3?), I got the patch and my HDD no longer clicks.

Thanks guys. It looks like there isn't a real problem with these drives.

I hope to acquire 2 30GB or 45GB units when I build my next system. Based on your info, those plans still stand.

BTW, 45GB is $149 at Onvia. :)

Had a 75GXP 45 GB fail over two months ago. The replacement failed last week. Haven't installed the second replacement yet. Both times the bad clusters developed on the windows partition. Couldn't recover on the second occurance. Good thing I have multiple partitions.

CPU/Chipset: 440 BX
Deskstar model: 45GB
IDE Controller for Deskstar: Promise Ultra-100.
Term of use: First failed after six weeks, second after two months.

CPU -> T-Bird 750Mhz @ 900 MHz
MB -> ASUS A7V KT133 Chipset
IDE Controller -> Promise FastTrack100 IDE
RAID -> Promise Hardware RAID 0
Drives -> 2x IBM 75 GXP 30GB

Terms of Use: Running Win2k. Weird behavior. I have two partitions. c: 5GB (OS, NTFS), d: 55GB (Storage, A/V Editing, FAT32) This is my problem: I get disk errors a lot. Every time I reboot, chkdsk is run on D: and I usually have a few "errors" (1 or 2) in the file system. Is this indication of a failing drive? It has been happening for a few months now. Other than that, they have been great

Deskstar model: 45GB 75XP
IDE Controller: High-point ATA 100 RAID

MSI 6321 (694D Pro) w VIA Apolla Pro Chipset
Onboard ATA 66 (the board came with a PCI ATA-100 controller but I've been to lazy to put it in as the Sandra scores are about equal with another machine based on the same board using the onboard ATA-100)
2 PIII 733
512 Crucial CAS2
30GB 75GXP - Failed after 2 months - RMA in process.
Currently using 75GB 75GXP - very fast (Sandra 21208)but much louder than the 30 GB.

I have 24 of the 75GB sitting in my office right now waiting to be put into 3 Arena Raid Boxes (8 drives per box of RAID 5).

I'll let you know how it goes (I plan to put them together next week)
