Thanks. Saw those two shops, but am not familiar with them. I guess I'll wait until Newegg or Amazon get it.

I was looking at the i7-3770T for a SBS 2011 server upgrade (my own).

Out of curiousity...what are you going to use it for?

To philipma1957: what did you use the 2500t for?

I like the low thermal watt (45) on this for an always on computer setup.

I've got a hand-me down system with an i7-3960X and Radeon HD7970. I run BOINC all day. This system was a bad idea for someone that lives in the desert (I'm in the desert southwest). With this system on, the ambient temp. in the room goes up 6 to 10 degrees C. It's been very hot the past few weeks and it's only going to get hotter as summer approaches.

I'd like to replace the current build with one that has the i7-3770T and a GTX 670.

the 2500t lets me run a very very very quiet htpc.

graphics are with the sapphire hd7750 ultimate.

A great htpc card for video quality. nice big heatsink since I do not game much I never get this card over 55c. also the system can run for a day or more with prime 95 strees test and the cores don't go over 60c on a small air cooler.

fans are all very low speed under 800rpm.

I have 2ssds in it and a nas in another room. does not pull much juice

33 to 37 idle
44 to 47 netflix
70 to 74 blu ray

watts on my kill-a watt.

I am very happy with this cpu. my wei scores are 7.3 for the cpu 7.4 for the gpu and 7.8 for ram and ssd's

I wonder if the i7 3770t with just the 4000 igpu would be good enough for a truly silent htpc. oh my psu is a seasonic x-660 overkill but the fan never turns on due to power not be high usage.

It would.

Im using an i5 661 for HTPC. And its just plain silly to add discrete cards to such IGPs. I dont get where the idea of discrete cards came into HTPC space. When we have IGPs thats more than plentyful.

well the hd7750 ultimate does give a better image then hd 3000 igpu as tested on my 46 inch sony by my eyes my wife and a few friends and I do some gaming not much.

so putting in the card did not break the bank. I have a very nice speaker system so I did not mind dropping 125 more for the card.

In the fall I may do some builds with an i7 3770t use a smaller board and case then the matx I have used. of course this build will be all igpu.

I would like to replace both my main desktop and home server with identical hardware. I dont do any video encoding...but run a lot of AV scans. I currently have an OC Q6600 that has served me well...but acts as a heater in the office. The next one will be stock (no OC)

On my main workstation, I run an Intel 320 160 GB SSD, plus a number of HDDs...and am rarely over 25% CPU usage with the Q6600 at 3.4 ghz.

Sounds like I should buy the i7 3770T for the server...and if it works well...buy another one for my desktop.

based on what the i5 2500t is doing for me the i7 3770t would be really good for you. I wrote www.provantage.com about them carrying the i7 3770t for special order. I got my i5 2500t from them. factory dropped ship from costa rica. it would not hurt to ask them via email.

I am tempted to grab one for testing as igpu 4000 only htpc in a low noise unit. if the op you and me all ask maybe they will be able to special order it like they did for me with the i5 2500t.

Wow, nice rig! Hopefully crunching for the TeAm :)

I'll build a 3770T/670 rig for you and trade? :p

Thanks. I just emailed Provantage as well.

I'm on team Anandtech for a couple of the projects I'm participating in on BOINC. Don't remember which ones though.

I got a reply from Provantage and they will offer me a price quote to me. I am going to ask for price quote on 3 of them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 3770T just an underclocked 3770K? Why not buy any i7 and underclock it then?

based on my i5 2500t cpus and i5 2500k

under clocked i5 2500k runs hotter and pulls more juice then the i5 2500t.

Same setup my 2500t idles at 33 watts and plays blurays at 70 watts my 2500k under clocked pulls more watts 41 and 91.

this is with a hd7750 ultimate gpu . I can run all fans at 400 to 600 rpm. with the 2500t .

I can't get the 2500t to get hotter then 62 c with any stress test. Now my goal is a low power low noise htpc in a matx case. that can do some gaming.

I'm not sold. The only difference between the T and other models is possibly binning, voltage, and clocks. The larger factors effecting power consumption are going to be voltage and clock. Was your T running at the same voltage as the non-T?

the pair of 2500 t's and the one 2500 k ran with identical gear and settings. Of course i may have 2 really good t's and 1 mediocre k.

I will try out the 3770t's

also in my case i paid less then newegg's price for the i7 3770k

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116501

and less then any price on amazon

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new

that has to count for something .

remember higher clocks are not something I need, but 8 cores via hyperthreading are good for handbrake. this machine will be a good cpu for handbrake and a lot of other thread tasks. it will clock at 3.7 max which is decent.

my i5 2500t maxed at 3.3 but only uses 4 cores no ht so it does not do handbrake that fast.

I think the t units really do run cooler then the k. I will test more with the 3770t when they come.
