If your LLC is max you are probably underestimating the voltage. Some boards overvolt on the highest setting. Mine seems to overvolt about .03v-.035v.

I actually wanted to try to get 5 Ghz stable, but it won't even post above 4.82 so I'm trying to figure out what the "magic" setting is to get it to post. I turned off the deep C states and that seemed to help to get 4.75 stable again. I may try turning off C1e as well.

I set CPU PLL down to 1.466v(as low as my Asrock will go) and I am now running P95 at 4.7 at the same voltage I was using at 4.625. I wasn't able to get 4.7 stable at this voltage before at 1.811v(default). I'm going to see how far I can go now. It looks like it is set way too high at default.

I have managed to get it 4.7Ghz stable, but that's already nearing 1.4V

Ok at 4.5ghz, my 3770K just beat the score for 4.7ghz (cinebench)... And no.. the 4.7ghz score was not under any throttling.. Strange huh?

but yeah.. past 4.4ghz and the voltage required increases exponentially.. I undervolted for 4.3ghz..

Not strange at all. SB (and IB now) will be "stable" but perform slower due to internal error handling. Your 4.7Ghz wasn't really stable. See Idontcare's old post regarding linpack and the GFLOPS rating at different speeds/voltages for reference.

And actually, looking at his numbers, looks like my current OC needs more voltage, but I'll leave it as is until I get the proper cooling and finish my testing.

It would be interesting to see results of this on games or photoshop/lightroom instead of synthetic benchmarks

Games I can assure you won't make much difference. At least not at those speeds. These procs are already mostly idle in those.

so your saying the benefit of the overclock is still there, but when the processor is 100% loaded its leaving some improvement on the table by not having the correct voltage?

I'm not saying that really because I don't really know. What I am saying is that games don't benefit from faster than stock because most all games are waiting on the GPU and not the CPU.

to a degree yes, but i just moved from a Q6600 to a 3770k and it made a HUGE difference in my 480 SLI setup that was being bottlenecked.

But I know what you mean in that most games are GPU limited.

This. Anyway 1.4 is highly likely to get you there. But going over 4.5 isnt worth it IMO

my sandy 2500k at 4.8 feels way faster than it is at 3.3 .:sneaky:

My 3700k survived the delidding surgery despite my scoring of the PCB with my X-Acto knife and exposing some yellow metal.
Die Liquid Pro, IHS MX-4, resealed with Alumina thermal bonding compound.

Highest difference 21c drop, lowest difference 15c drop, after 1 hour of Prime95.
