Yep, I am crazy.

For those of you who don't know, I lost my job, so I no longer have anything to do. Now I am totaly bored, and being driven crazy.

Today I decided that my hard drive needed a window. Nothing like a window into a device that will die a flaiming death when a stray dust mode gets sucked in. But I did it anyway because I am crazy!!!

Yep it is running just fine, been running since I did it this afternoon. pic of it in my lanbox #2. It looks like it is not running, but I assure you that it is. Those fans are spinning too. I am suprized that this camera doesnt get that "swirl" effect going. It is a 500 mhz aMD k6-2 board if you are wondering.

Up next, a window in my stomach so I can see what my lunch looks like when I digest it. I will post pics when I start that one too.

*Update!* Haha! Bwhahahahaha! Someone asked for it, so I did it. 'Nother drive, not lit from within by Yellow (orange) LED

Thats a cool mod 🙂

I would do it, but i only have new hard drives (all less than a month old!) so not gonna void the warranty on those 😉

Well we already knew that....
But have you tried that drive yet? Next you need to add some UV led's in that bad boy!

I have a friend who works in a clean room, Im gonna have him take my HD apart and store it there, then cut the hole outside of the clean room, stick it through the saitizer and put it back together it should work...🙂

Awww crap, didn't think of adding an LED. That would rock. Well, not like I have anything to do tommorow.

And yes, the drive works. I just stuck it in another system, and formatted it. I copied a a bunch of MP3's to it, then played them. Seems to work so far.

I know how you feel Evadman. I got fired yesterday and I'm already getting antsy. Oh well I have an interview at a much better job on Monday so wish me luck!

Well basically to make a long story short I finally got sick of all the crap that goes on at work everyday and walked out on them Tuesday. I had Wednesday off. My manager fired me on Tuesday but did she call me Tuesday? No. Wednesday? No. Did she wait until Thursday when she started her vaction and have someone else do it for her like a coward? Bingo. It was long past time I stopped working at McDonalds anyway.🙂

I am sorry, but that made me laugh. Same thing happened to me. I was fired on wedsday when I had tues off. My manager also went and hid while someone else did his dirty work. darn corporate people.

Well, atleast you seem happy enough 🙂 Don't loose it. Remember, you are much better off without those loosers. Obviously you know what youa re dooing as you have an offer lined up already. Sweet! Good luck on your interview!

Yeah I used my day off on Wednesday wisely.😉 When you bring home less than $200 a week you don't sweat about losing a job like that. Those jobs come a dime a dozen but now it is time to start a career. Any of you guys hiring?😉

Well, before I closed the drive back up I did windex the platters to a streak free shine 🙂

Actually, I had a brand new ziploc bag ready and waiting for me when I popped the top of the HD. As soon as it came off, into the bag it went. Then I went outside and used a dremmel to chop up the top. Then out came the sander to buff the edges and to get rid of any stray metal shavings. Then into my parts washer it went. I scrubbed the crap out of it. Then, believe it or not, I went out to my pool and swearled it round in the water for a few minutes. Then I let it bake in the sun to remove the water.

Then back inside, I used a tack cloth on it to remove anything I missed. Then I used silicone glue to seal the plexi to the top, used windex on the plexi from the inside to remove my fingerprints, and a last cleaning with the tack cloth before it went back on to the hard drive base.

I would guess the platters were expossed to the ziploc world for a total of 3 and 1/2 hrs. Total time spent out of the ziploc was probably less than 15 seconds.

I am actually suprised that it worked too 🙂 Muttley wasnts me to make one for him, and I happen to have another drive, so I have something to do tommorow now 🙂
 
I've seen that mod done before on Overclockers.com. Looks really cool if you mount it vertically in a case with a window and neon light.😎
