I won't be giving another penny to the salvation army.

The Salvation Army bothers me because of their stance against homosexuals. They will not hire homosexual and have been known to fire them.

Their website clearly states their voices against homosexuality, in the nicest way possible of course.

I have no problem donating to Christian charities (I'm not religious), but not ones that discriminate.

I stopped giving to the Democratic Party once I realized they supported liberal candidates. Now I many give to the Communist Party since they support the American way of life.

Each Christmas I give around $100 to the salvation army, today I found out they are a religious charity. I now feel retarded for giving them all of that money. I will need to check all of the other charities I give too, to make sure non of them have any religious affiliation.

Looks like a hit and run troll.

When I was in the Navy I was hospitalized one year during Christmas, far away from home and stuck in a hospital bed really sucks. The salvation army came to that hospital on Christmas day when they could have been with their own families. They sang carols and gave each person a gift. I never forget what they did for me then as I felt pretty low before they came. I don't know about the religion of those people that came but I do know they cared about what they were doing and that is good enough for me.

Same here, but I stopped giving to them when I found out they weren't a real army. Fucking liars. It pisses me off thinking that a bunch of poor lazy degenerates are using all of my old crap instead of some needy soldiers.

I try not to worry about the religion or membership requirements of any group that is providing help to those in need, provided they don't discriminate against who the aid, which last I heard the Salvation Army does not.

Sure, they hold some beliefs we might consider antiquated or even discriminatory, but unless their critics are willing to start running soup kitchens they need to accept the "bad" with the overwhelming good the Salvation Army does.

You shouldn't feel retarded for donating to a religious organization. You should feel retarded for not knowing that the SA is a religious organizaiton.

You should also feel retarded about refusing to continue your support for a worthwhile organization that, until recently, you had no problem donating to because of their good work.

even if their views don't get in the way of their good deeds, which ISN'T the case, giving them money would still be supporting and promoting their batshit crazy religious views

What the hell do you think the word "salvation" means. A fool and his money...🙄

Religious Persecution
Religious persecution, whether of Christians or persons of other faiths, is an injustice against humanity. The Salvation Army is adamantly opposed to the religious persecution of any individual, community, organization or institution.
hmm, something seems to be missing. oh, OTHER religions

Wow, you're fucking retarded.

EDIT: FUCK, DBZ Beat me to it.

Regardless of your views on religion, many churches do great things for the community (mostly local type churches, not catholic churches and other big establishments. They just ship all their money off to the vatican to pay for their lawsuits).

I consider myself agnostic, but my wife is a firm believer. I go to church with her and don't hesitate to donate because I see first hand what good they do for the community. I've seen the addicts and other people who have changed their lives through our church. I've seen the youth programs they run, and the daycare they provide. Best of all, almost 100% of what I donate is going back into the community.

Most charities half of what you donate goes to the executives and employees.

"We Combat Natural Disasters with Acts of God"

Aren't natural disasters acts of god? So they combat acts of god with acts of god?

I may not agree with everything religious charities stand for but we give anyway. It's no biggie.

This may be the most stupid statement that I've ever read. You are either a huge troll or a moron ... or both.

did you notice the word "and" in my post? the porn quote was just to help the common ATOT folk relate to the organization. the second line in my post was quite unrelated

you think they actively look into helping muslim or jewish homeless? maybe to try and convert them. here is what they say under their views on religious persecution

The first paragraph is about all religions. Then it goes onto Christians in particular. Other religions found, outrage not.

We stopped giving to them years ago. We had donated an old couch to them. Clean and blemish free aside from a small tear in the arm. Easily fixable. They refused to take it because of that. Items for donation had to be in mint condition. If it was for poor people, what difference does it make? Do they seriously want me to go to the Ethan Allen? We ended up giving it to a local church youth group who was more than glad to have it.

You do realize that the main function of the store isn't to sell stuff cheaply to poor people, right? It's to sell stuff to raise money to fund the programs that help people directly. Another benefit is that it gives them a place to train people for jobs.

Also, if they knew they'd have trouble selling it or storing it (maybe they already had a ton of decent furniture and were running out of space) it could actually cost them money to get rid of it. They're trying to take in stuff that they know they can turn around and sell. If it takes fixing so they can sell it's likely that they'd never get rid of it and have to pay to have somebody haul it away. Why would they take something that would make them lose money?
