Three weeks ago my wife and I puchased a 2007 Ford Escape XLT. It's our first new car, and we were excited about it. I bought some good wax (Klasse and Menzerna) to keep it nice. Earlier this week I'm walking out from a store and catch a glimpse of the hood and what do I see? A dent about the size of a dime in the hood! AHHH!!!! How in the hell? I have no idea how it happened. No paint was damaged so I setup an appointment with a PDR guy to come out tomorrow and fix it.

Flash forward to today. I take the train to work usually, and park the Escape at the train lot with hundreds of other cars. I park at the end of the row so I can stay away from other cars so people don't dent it. Today I come out to my car after work, walk around the passenger side to puy my bag away, and there is a FRICKING 15" LONG SCRATCH DOWN TO THE FRICKING PAINT GOING DOWN THE FRICKING PASSENGER DOOR!!!!!!! MOTHER OF HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I take all the precautions to keep our new car nice, and some fvcking punk decides it's cool to key my car. I'm guessing it was just some random kid walking through the lot and decided it would be cool to key some new car with no plates.

So now I have to get that fixed too. This is totally random crap. I don't have any enemies I know of, and this crap has happened in random parking lots. I'm so mad I can't see straight. My wife is going "Well you can't keep it nice forever, it was bound to happen." Which is of course making it worse.

EDIT: Pic of scratch

I agree. Driving a new car is just too stressful... car payment, high insurance costs, chances of it getting damaged, broken into....
That's why I drive a 13 year old truck. No stress!

That's why you get a Japanese car and be done with it.

/flamesuit

<- 10 y/o corolla here, no worries.

Also, try not to make your car so conspicuous. You'll see from the posts that follow that people like to torture people who park their cars away from other cars to avoid harm.

what the h3// does getting a Japanese car have to do with someone keying it or not?

I know what you mean. The first scratch feels like a knife twisting in your back. Also, the first year or two of depreciation kills your pocket book and I'll never buy a new car again if I ever have to.

By the way, don't assume that it is some young punk. It could be a senior citizen who did it and was not even aware of the damage.

Yeah they probably targetted you because you parked your shiny new car really far away. Calm down though, its just a car and you can fix it. Anyway its a good excuse to get a real paint job.

It's not parked far away, just at the end of the row so there is only a car on one side. The lot is always filled, so there are plenty of other cars around.

And there is no way this was some senior citizen or someone doing it without noticing it. Someone did this on purpose.

Also, why on earth would I get "real" paint job for a scratch in the door?

torture how?

I have no clue, I was just following Aflac's lead:)

People do suck. It seems that everyone's passive-aggressive these days. Too antisocial to deal with their problems face-to-face, but mad and immature enough to key cars, poison pets, pour weed killer on lawns...

I know how you feel. I have five vehicles, two junkers, two with moderate use and my '02 Z28 that I just can't bring myself to park anywhere near a parking lot and so it sits in my garage gathering dust and sucking money from me for insurance.

I've thought of selling it just because I can't bring myself to drive it. Maybe 1500 miles this year.

I'd probably react the same way. Scratching is not tolerated. I would want to take it back to the dealer for a replacement.

The dent frustrated me, but it wasn't that big of a deal. This pisses me off to no end though. It's not the damage as much as it's just being pissed that someone would do this. The fact that some people have no respect for others, and like to tear people down just because they have something nice. Damaging someone's property when they aren't around has to be one of the most cowardly, cheap, punk things someone can do.

OP, I got a story for you. I just bought a 07 Camry and I have had it for about 3 weeks. Anyway, this past Monday I went to a new Quiznos for lunch and I am not from the area so I didn't know the landscaping. Anyway, I backed straight up and right into a smaller boulder and absolutely scratched the sh!t out of my rear bumper. Got a quote tonight for $660 all said and one with a new bumper. :(

I feel your pain!

If nobody bought new cars there would be no used cars. Thanks for supporting us used car buyers.

I'll give you 10k for your used escape.

That sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. That wouldn't bother me nearly as much though, I'd just be mad at myself, as I'm sure you are.

This, however, pisses me off so much. It seriously makes me want to setup a sting operation at the parking lot and hope to find some punk doing this so I can have some vigilante justice.
