dude clean up a bit...
Yeah, that's kind of a constant struggle. I have mental illness too, and I'm "morbidly obese", which makes effort more difficult. I have a "worker", but because of COVID restrictions, he can't actually help me in my apt. yet. Basically, he just gives me a pep talk every week. Well, at least it's human contact.

Edit: I actually suffer from probably the same thing that Cheeze does, more-or-less. Only have a a little more good sense, or less "religousity", and I took the apt., and get money every month (disability). Plus, more recently, stacking those Sats!. Helps a bit with groceries, etc.

it's really simple. Just remove/relocate 1 item a day. Small effort, but over time it will clean up the room.

Hopefully I’ll get vaccinated by March, once I’m good want me to stop by and help out?

We’ve all heard this advice and it is surprisingly difficult to commit to but it does work.
Wife & I have a problem being attached to inanimate things which causes clutter. We are both finding it easier to remove some stuff every week or a few things a week. Living area is a lot less cluttered after a month.

Edit: here is an example of what I mean.
There are too many damn glasses in this cabinet. Four or five others simply don’t fit. She really likes her lined fiestaware glasses, I like the short fiesta glasses but then there are a ton of other random glasses that literally are never used, we won’t be entertaining for the foreseeable future either.
I need to store or dispose of the various plastic containers I have on the top shelf, many of which have not been used since 2011. She needs to decide which glasses she wants to keep in this cabinet we need to remove around 8 glasses worth of stuff for it to be organized.
I need to make space on the top shelf and move some of the less frequent used pet things up there.

@VirtualLarry I thought that would be an epic/cool avatar for you. I’m glad you’ve chosen it.

update: small progress, items of mine removed. Blue lid container fell into the sink that’s why it is wet.

There are cupboard shelves that is useful for short glasses. Two tiers instead of one

l have thought of that but it will just allow more clutter.
My Home & Garden cabinet project ties into this. Too much “stuff” on the countertop all the time and much of that “stuff” gets used but not regularly used. I’d love a place to keep an instant pot, her juicer and coffee press, various teas/supplements, pet foods and just better storage for pots & pans.
Base cabinet wise we have two 20 inch storage areas and one 12 inch storage area, plus a semi useless turn table-lazy Susan thingy.

Apparently some browsers and security programs are blacklisting domains that have mixed content ex: some content not HTTPS. So if you use Chrome or Bit defender you won't be able to access anything that is on any domain that happens to have links on their site to non http sites. Going to have to try to fix that and then get off their blacklists. Seems silly to me, as it is not really putting anyone at risk if a domain happens to be hosting stuff, or linking to stuff, that is not https. Only really found this out like yesterday.

Good gravy! What's with all the paper towels?!?!? That's a serious toilet paper substitute using Brawny!
Paper towels are better than toilet paper when wiping, as you can use both sides. 😉

Man Larry, I would feel claustrophobic with all of that around me. Maybe we can get you on an episode of Hoarders: ATOT edition. 😛

That's actually me going to my mom's place.

That's actually me going to my mom's place.
For me, it was my grandmother's house.

During the last 10-15 years of her life, the hoarding of stuff got really bad, and we had to step in and move stuff around so she could safely use her walker to get around her house. During her last 5 years, she literally had small paths into all of her rooms, with just mountains of stuff everywhere.

Well, it was nice knowing you folk. I must be in the last 5 years then.
Her hoarding really began in her mid to late 60s, and lasted about 25 years. It just kept getting worse and worse as she got older until the horde took over her house.

With you being in your late 40s, you just gotten a head start. 😉

Seriously though, if you are already down to pathways into other rooms, you might want to take care of that before the pathways get smaller and smaller until they disappear altogether.

When I sit on her couch my feet literally don't even fit in the space cleared to get to the couch. Causes cramps and claustrophobic panic attacks when your foot is literally turned sideways and hooked between stuff, then even when you free it you can't put it anywhere except right back in the spot you just escaped from.

Things got so much worse after she got rid of her car a year ago... probably because she's always home now and I can't sneak her junk out.

When I'd go to her house for a visit, most of the time I couldn't spend more than an hour there because I felt the same way with all the stuff everywhere. It just gets so overwhelming to be in the middle of stuff, and I could never feel relaxed around it.

When she passed, we were able to get charities like Goodwill and Salvation Army to come out just from donating all the clothes she had accumulated. 95% of the clothes still had the tags on it, and was never worn. Generally when you donate small items like clothing, you take it to their drop-off locations. However, when we explained how much there was, they sent trucks out to pick it up.

It took me (and some friends and family on some of the days) over a week of working 12+ hours a day just to sort through the stuff after she passed. It was not fun process, and almost everything was either donated or was thrown away.
