I got a notice from my company that our health insurance is going up this month. My company will be paying $1600/month and I will have to pay $500. Is there anyway I can use Obamacare to lower my premiums? $500 is ridiculous.

Family I suppose? I think your best bet is to switch to an inferior/cheaper plan that your employer offers.

That's insane. So glad I don't have to pay any of that here. I'd barely be able to afford to add another $500/mo to my budget.

Yikes, that sucks. I've been hearing that Obamacare has been turning into a bit of a disaster, with people's premiums going up substantially. Also some folks have lost their old plans, despite Obama saying they would be allowed to keep them.

Buddy of mine follows American politics more closely than I do. He thinks Obamacare was deliberately designed to fail to force through socialized medicine. $500/mo is a lot more than I pay in the health care portion of my taxes, so his theory makes sense to me.

At my work family coverage is almost $700 a month. Spouse only is $450. Insurance was damn expensive before obamacare and it won't be going down ever.

My wife got her coverage through an insurance broker. if you have people in your social group that are self employed, ask them where they got their insurance.

Your best bet would be to cancel insurance and instead pocket that $500 into your own account. That way its not a use it or lose it scenario. Penalty be damned.

Its pretty much been a string of failures starting from the day it entered the floor of Congress.

This conspiracy theory has been around for a long time as well, usually from the fringe right. But as we watch Obamacare stumble from one failure to another over and over, it does make even the most gung-ho Obama supporter wonder.

I am on the cheapest plan which is Kaiser. They offer Blue Cross but it's even more.

So, you're claiming a Blue Cross plan is more than $25,200 per year.

Care to support that claim? Or does anyone else care to support that claim? Or is this just another trolling thread. (Not to mention, wrong forum.)

Tax savings aside, how can health insurance cost $2100/month between the OP and the employer? Why can't the OP opt out and get in on some of that $1600 that his employer pays?

He could opt out, but he won't get that extra 1600 dollars his employer pays into the play on his behalf. He will get to save his 500/month though, which he will then have to spend on healthcare.gov to find another plan. Otherwise he'd just end up spending about that much in penalty taxes for not having health insurance.

Yea, I get that but I'm saying hypothetically, why can't his employer offer such a deal? The company saves money and the OP saves.

That's beside the point though cause it's hard to believe the cheapest plan offered by the OPs company is $2100/month.
