... and after two hours and forty-five minutes of graphic, digitally enhanced violence punctuated by gouts of hydraulically propelled gore, I realized that I was just happy there wasn't any sex.

I still think it's backwards that, in America, violence in the media is A-OK, but sex is a big no no.

By age 16 she's probably already taking it in the cooch anyhow. Django Unchained is the least of a fathers worries.

Wait. Were you happy there wasn't any sex because

1) You have a 16yo daughter watching
2) You were just happy not to see sex

:p

I remember being in high school, and someone having the good sense to pick "There's Something About Mary" for a family movie.

Ever watched a scene where a gob of semen hangs off a dude's ear with your parents? Yeah, think we were all a little traumatized.

I saw the Big Lebowski with my family when it was in theaters... I was 13 at the time.

I've heard good things about this movie but if it is 2.75 hours, I guarantee I will never watch it.

Your daughter knows what sex is by age 16. What, you think she's going to go out and get pregnant just because she saw two people on the screen in a love scene?

Parents are funny.

Dude, she's had the entire internet on her phone since she was 14. I am not unaware that she has likely encountered various materials related to human sexuality in that time. Not to mention that we discuss it very frankly as a family.

But I still wasn't eager to watch any while she was in the room.

:colbert: Which sort of activity would you rather have her involved in?

Fulfilling her biological needs, as you have clearly done
or
Violence punctuated by gouts of hydraulically propelled gore?

Sigh. I didn't think I was being so obscure in my original post. The issue was me. Not my daughter. I was not afraid that Django Unchained was going to encourage her to a) have sex, b) kill people, or c) use the word n****r every thirty seconds. I was simply commenting on the irony of being relieved not to have to watch a sex scene with her in attendance, while at the same time not feeling particularly uncomfortable with the (admittedly comic book) violence.

Congress should pass a bill banning all sex scenes or implied sex from all movies. Once again the lawmakers are asleep at the wheel

how is that backwards?

it's very logical

how many teens turn into murderers? very very few. it's basically not a concern for most parents. no matter how much violence they watch, they aren't going to become violent people

how many teens are going to get pregnant, get someone else pregnant and/or get STDs? Substantially more.

Thus parents are naturally concerned about the greater risk.

I think watching graphic sex scenes is typically awkward feeling for both parents and kids. Even at 36yrs old, I don't think i'd be terribly comfortable watching some scene like Nip Tuck used to have with my mom. Gore isn't because it's not something typically anyway, that either would do or perhaps it's some moral or religious stigma about sex that still exists.
