The 20th Amendment requires ""The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January"" - not that the Constitution has meant anything to Bush and Cheney.

I think the legal way to do it would be for Cheney to resign, Bush to appoint Obama as Vice President, Congress approve Obama as Vice President --- and then Bush resign as President.

I'd be thrilled if he just secluded himself to Crawford and spent the next few months clearing brush, "working hard, hard work, [mumbles mindlessly]." (Cheney should just remain in isolation in his lair -- in an undisclosed location, deep within the bowels of the earth -- pulling wings off of flies.)

Think of Moonbeam threads as mirrors where you can reflect who you are. You may have assumed that I genuinely believe that what I proposed could actually happen and that, therefore, I was just being profoundly stupid and naive. I assure you such was not the case. But the lemons of truth can sometimes be turned into lemonade, no? In this dark time I thought we could have some fun. You may have dove head first into an empty pool, but that's just fine here.

We've some months to go before our national disaster is out of office so what's wrong with having some fun in a fantasy where Bush does something right for a change.

Can you imagine what it would do for his popularity if he got himself out of the way now?

Edit: Something bothering me here. Is it dove or diven? Oh hell, it's dived.
