I was not aware of that either, as I've been throwing them in my recycle bin too. I did know that you're not supposed to recycle pizza boxes, though

The pizza boxes are usually due to the fact that they have foot still in/on them.

Upon further investigation (as pointed out earlier in the thread) cereal boxes and the like are recyclable. So old-man-neighbor can go to hell :)

My county forces me to pay a recycling fee. I do not want to recycle things that don't make me money (like say recycling cans would). So this pisses me off. I know of one guy who took them to court and got out of paying the fee, but I don't have the time and money to deal with a court case.

So this is my compromise. They gave me a big trash can to recycle with. They use a machine to dump it into a big truck to take to their plant. Obviously the purpose of this program is to create jobs, so I decided to help. I put any trash that my trash company will not take (or if my trash cans are full) into the recycle container.

This way I'm getting value for my money (I don't have to pay extra for more trash pickup) and I'm helping keep people employed sorting out my trash from recyclable material. I am however nice to the workers in that I never put my kitty litter in the recycle can.

What is funny is that the company that does our recycling here sent out a flier on what is and is not recyclable. Colored paper is not recyclable. Guess what the flier was printed on? Yup. Colored paper.

I know my recycle guy hates us during Summer since the bin is always overflowing with glass beer bottles.

you might want to see if you can get another bin from your city if the guy is being such a dick about it. when i lived in a town that had curb side recycling, I could get a second bin from the city if i needed it.

This. We get our first bin free from the city and it is a one time $10 charge for an additional.

Ours takes them. In fact last year they opened up recycling to all kinds of recyclable plastic too. I had to get a second bin for all the stuff ($7.50).
