I was unaware that cereal boxes and the like were un-recyclable

Neighbor just more or less chewed out my wife for it. (long story why he informed us on the topic).

Googled it up and sure as shit, "chip board" is not recycled it seems.
I throw A LOT of such boxes in our recycle bin. Oops

<begin debate of recycling now>

Who will be the first to link to the Penn and Teller episode?
Or the grocery bag thread?
Oh the possibilities are endless here!

Your neighbor chewed out your wife over attempting to recycle cereal boxes?

I think you need a new neighbor. Sounds like a dick.

My trash does recycle ceral boxs (chipboard/paperboard). Even has a picture of one on the items they accept.

Can I recycle chipboard such as cereal boxes and empty paper towel rolls?
Yes. These items are considered chipboard, a type of cardboard.

Yeah, they are recyclable. There is even a little recycle icon on cereal boxes. It's whether or not your local region has the capability to do so.

Wellllllllll that's the odd part of the story.
Neighbors to the north are pretty non-existant.
When we moved in 11 years ago, the lady living there was about 167 years old. She died shorrly after, and the house has stood empty since. Her daughter and son-in-law (about 100 years old themselves) stop by nearly every day to check on the place/do whatever. In fact I discussed with the guy about buying it and reselling myself but, as most old people expecet, he wanted WAY too much for the house...

Anywyas, our recycle bin often fills up (apparently cuz Im throwing in things that shouldnt be recycled?) and normally when ours gets full, I will use theirs as it is NEVER full or even used. I take it to the curb and bring it back (not to mention I shovel their walks and driveway all winter too).

Well apparently when he saw the cereal boxes in there he started telling my wife that those aren't recyclable and that he doesn't want the city to "come after him" for putting them in there... (keep in mind the carts are all mechanically lifted/dumped into the truck... it'd be IMPOSSIBLE to detect)

He's an old bastard.

Better yet, staple it to his forehead and let him know the next time he feels the need to get in your wife's face you'll take a nail gun to his balls.

well, in his defense, and if you read my longer explaination of the events, I was using HIS recycle bin.

Even so he shouldn't be jumping your wife about it. If he wants to get on someone he should have waited for you. Obviously though the guy is too much of a pussy to say anything to someone who might tell him to fuck off or better yet kick his ass if he gets in your face so he decided to unload on your wife.

Again, in his defence (why I feel the need I have no idea), he has no clue if it was me or her that put it in there, so he prob just figured he'd bitch at one of us about it.

He's nuts though on other things too. Long story short, is its a small price to pay to have no neighbors to the north 99.9% of the time. (houses are VERY close in my neighborhood)

Shit like that makes me glad my nearest neighbor is just under a mile away.

Recycle whatever you want, the city will send you some faggy letter if they have a problem with it. However, using the recycling bin of someone else is a dick thing. You're just as bad as the knob 'chewing' you out. I'll remember never to visit your shitty state.

You think I hadn't previously OK'ed it with him? I've been doing it for years now (ultra low occassion) but the first time I did it I asked him if it was OK and he was perfectly fine with it.

You may now put away your Jump to Conclusions Matt and allow yourself to visit my fine state any time you want.

I put everything in recycle. Dead animals. Small children. Body parts. I'm sure there's a use for it somewhere.

I saw it, and it's pretty much true. It's not economical to recycle glass, paper and plastic according to studies that came out long after the show aired.

Has to do with the low cost of the raw materials versus the high cost of the recycling process. Paper and plastic can only be recycled a finite number of times as well. Most of that stuff ends up in landfill anyway. Metal is different, as raw metal costs are high. Raw aluminum ore is expensive to smelt and recycled metal is always needed to produce steel.

If you're truly gung ho on the environment, it's better to reuse old containers and shop smart to cut down on packaging.

I was not aware of that either, as I've been throwing them in my recycle bin too. I did know that you're not supposed to recycle pizza boxes, though
