1. Network administration. And I dont mean that "ghey" (what a kiddiot word) Windows crap. I mean the hardcore UNIX network. Try adminning one of those from a Windows machine without downloading third party tools or using software from your OS vendor that did not come with your OS.
Get a sun box IMO if you want network admin. Solaris 2.8 is much faster with it's version of x-windows than my iMac was and Suns are noted for stability and scaleablity. From a sprac all the way to the farm you have an array of choices which are better.

2. Photo editting.
Photoshop works faster on a PC becasue of hardware graphic acceleration which the mac does'nt support, plus there's more filters and third party addin's becasue more people write for it.

3. Movie editting.
Agreed from things Ive read

4. You get away from the old POS backwards compatibility of x86.
Hum. XP is a all new kernal like carbon in OSX. XP has emulation like OSX for lagacy apps but it actually works well.

5. Mac OS X makes sense. I cant say the same thing about Windows.
? I have no idea what this means. Care to explain. To me XP is wat easier to use and navigate with explorer than OSX with Sherlock.

6. Mac users will like it better than a PC.
Poor un-enlightend souls. Pay more for less?

7. Plenty of good and free software.
More on the PC side by an order of magnitude or two (base 10)

8. Owning a Mac makes it easier to piss off stupid x86 zealots.
Conversly owning a PC pisses of Mac users and they can't connect to any windows network without Dave.

9. Beautiful cases.
I agree. Nothing beats Apple industrial design team. From the iPod to the silver G4 cases Apple owns.

10. Beautiful OS in both looks and usability. The speed will get much better with 10.2 (much like 10.1 was MUCH faster) because of gcc upgrades.
I sure hope so. OSX is basically unusable IMO. I do like the terminal window for ftp and telnet sessions.

sparc4us are nice, but they are too much work for a desktop in my opinion. Mac OS X is almost no work. And XFree86 works just fine with Mac OS X :)

<< 2. Photo editting.

Mac OS 9 would be fine. But I can do both #1 and #2 with my Mac easier than I could with a Solaris machine.

<< 3. Movie editting.

That makes 3 I can do with Mac OS X as opposed to questionably do with Solaris.

<< 4. You get away from the old POS backwards compatibility of x86.

XP's not-quite-brand-new kernel has nothing to do with the hardware.

<< 5. Mac OS X makes sense. I cant say the same thing about Windows.

I dont use Sherlock so I cant comment on that. I use Finder and Terminal. One of the big ways it makes more sense than Windows: NO STUPID DRIVER LETTERS! :)

<< 6. Mac users will like it better than a PC.

Pay more for what they like. Its like a luxury car.

<< 7. Plenty of good and free software.

I would disagree. Most of the good software for a PC isnt free, even if you pirate it. I can go to freshmeat.net and find plenty of FREE software that will work on my Mac.

<< 8. Owning a Mac makes it easier to piss off stupid x86 zealots.

Bull. I can connect to a Windows share without Dave, I dont know about a domain because I havent tried, but there is probably a way to do it. Anyone that locks themselves into a one architecture solution is crazy. Thanks for trying though. :)

<< 9. Beautiful cases.

Its a small victory but Ill accept it ;)

I dont think its unusable, although I dont use it as a browsing machine. For me its almost a dumb terminal. I do a lot of sshing (telnet sucks ass) to x86 machines. I dont think one platform is 100% better than the other. I think there is room for both without all the bull from zealots on either side. Oh, and no comments on my cons?

Oh, and no comments on my cons?
I agreed with them all basically until except the caveats;)

I just can't understand using a 2K mahine as a dunb terminal when you could do so with Linux on a $500 box?

OK Goober....cough up that dollar and send it to n0cmonkey. In fact, it would be more fair for you to pay him the dollar, plus a dollar extra for each additional reason. :p

You loose...

<< What kind of mental conversation goes on when purchasing an I-Mac?

Left brain: Ugh, it's overpriced and too slow.
Right brain: But look, it's pretty!
Left: So? We can buy a P4 or Athlon XP for the same price that will dust the floor with it!
Right: But it's blue! Blue like the sky! Blue like our blanky when we were little! And it burns DVDs! We can make beautiful movies!
Left: How can we play games on it?
Right: It's so pretty! Look at the lines, it's like a giant, blue, booby! And we can get an I-Pod and listen to music!
Left: It's slow! And it's 1800 bucks!
Right: Boobies!
Left: All right, all right. I see your point. :p

<< Anyway, I noticed a 15% resocking fee on the CompUSA reciept.?> If it's opened box. Anyway to get around this? Or will this be a $250 mistake. >>

Eat the $250 and get that abomination against God?s Law and Man?s Law out of your house. Would you allow a poisonous serpent that tells LIES to your children to remain in your house? Would you allow Satan into your home because he looked lonely? No I say! Cast out the demons. Send the pestilence from the house of Jobs back to its unholy maker.
Amen.

<< RGN for a Mac zealot, I don't see why you don't use one at home? Maybe its because you don't think its worth your hard earned money?

That would be hypocrisy wouldn't it?
>>

Maybe its because in the last few months ( since the iMac's release) I've bought parts for 3 PC's (my own) and a new laptop + accessories and really don't need one?

For an asshole, your not too bright, oh wait, what am I saying...
>>

First of all, the only asshole here is you, thanks to your immature attempt an an insult when you weren't even flamed. I just merely asked questions. Those questions must have struck a nerve in you weasily little brain however. Sorry I got your fruity panties in a wad. But hey at least they are still color coordinated with the rest of your fruity ass decor.

Now that you've been properly flamed, you may fire up that cherry Mac of yours...oh wait what am I saying....you don't even use a mac!

Yes, yes I know you don't need one thanks to you purchase of 3 (!) PCs over the Crapple alternative. I must at least commend you on those choices. Thanks for making the arguement for our side.

i would get one cause, on tv and in movies, all the guys who get laid by those hot chicks always use a mac... never seen the hero turning away from a beige box, only to see the hot/fine chick in a negligee and a "come hither" gesture...

<so sue me, i wanna get laid by a supermodel...>
