I was right...I was being targeted for burglary :(

Looks like they did you a favor.

why? your mom wasn't here at that time

No one read anything other than your OP, so all they think is they stole is TP and a clock...

This is atot.. you've been here longer than me, you should know that when you use bullet points at the end of a post that's all people will look at, and even then they'll probably just skim it.

Point in case, see halik's reply.

But like I said, I really hope they get caught. It's got to feel awful to know they were in your house and stole your belongings.

You got cased. Your neighbor's not very bright for dialing the cops in front of their look out guy. You should watch back episodes of that discover channel show "It takes a thief." Around here everybody's got buzz in type metal gates in front of the front door. And some have that for their backdoor too.

I understand why it happened...just don't agree with that brevity in replying.

Just because something is typical, doesn't make it right.

Most aren't assuming some dude in a worktruck is a lookout. This is why what happened to me happens everyday apparently.

I think we're on the same page here, alkemyst. I wasn't saying it was right (in fact it's pretty damn rude regardless of what was taken), I'm just saying that's what happened....

Didn't realize you lived in the same area of FL as I did. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Where I'm at (Jog/Lantana) we're mostly hit by kids in the summertime and when there are events nearby (like octoberfest). That said, I imagine the stats will get worse as more folks struggle to find legit work.

We already have an alarm and a large dog, but, suspect neither will offer any real protection--just more incentive to target the neighbors instead of my place.

Hope they catch 'em, sounds like they are being pretty brazen about hitting the same area over and over, so I imagine they'll screw up and get caught. Too bad there are plenty of others to take their place.

🙁

Perhaps they were trying to film an episode of "Pimp your Master Bedroom" that was interrupted by your neighbor calling 911?

yeah pretty brazen is right. all these happened at 830 am to noon.

Perhaps they are scoping out neighborhoods and seeing when people leave for work and if anyone else is still home.

Brazen is an understatement. OP said the same truck came back and drove right past the police responding to the call!

Some of the 😕 stuff they took:

* BJ's size Charmin pack
* BJ's size Paper towel pack
* the rock I used to hold my gate open.
* a step stool
* a toaster oven, microwave and rice cooker...but left the Keurig Coffer maker and coffees worth about 5x those and much much smaller which they had to move out of the way for the toaster oven.
* a RCA/Video hookup cable.
* a coffee table that wasn't worth much but bulky as hell
* a pink cat clock

I think you got robbed by your grandma.

Anway, that sucks. Good thing your neighbor called or you'd be missing a lot more. You owe him a :beer:

See what I mean? Most people just read the bullet points...

Assuming the cops had a description of the truck last time....iit would suggest cops who aren't really paying attention.

I would also be hesitant to see a truck pass by with a lot of stuff in it just as I am on the same street upon which a burgerly was just reported. Of course I'm assuming there was no shell for the flatbed....so you could see all the shit packed into it.

And yes...lulz at the neighbor for calling the cops right in front of the lookout.

Although I do honestly feel sorry for what you lost 🙁

Really sorry to hear this, Alky. 🙁

Being robbed is probably the closest we males not in prison ever come to feeling personally violated, and it sucks hard enough as it is. I can't begin to imagine what it must feel like as a woman to be raped. :|

All these tales make me grateful for living where I do, I simply do not like to lock things, keep loaded weapons in the house or live in fear of any kind, and I don't. "Cowards die a thousand deaths. The valiant taste of death but once."

One thing I learned LONG AGO is that common thieves are not necessarily the brightest bulbs in the universe and can and will steal all kinds of WTF 😕 things. Life @ street level is not like traditional Hollywood movies/TV shows where the criminals are uber-prepared genius masterminds.

Now is the time to install landmines in your yard.

No more burglars. No more Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses either.

This is an excellent idea. Reminds me of Tacklbarry's house in Police Academy.

Also: no more girl scouts, but plenty of free cookies!

not to thread-jack and belittle anything...but what about the men that get raped? that happens too, albeit rare. (and I'm talking the non-inmates)

Sucks. Sounds like a declining neighborhood. I recall you had a thread about a lawn not cut a few doors down. HOAs aren't needed for crap like that - code enforcement is. If your local community doesn't have code about uncut lawns, or if they're not enforcing it, then time to put the house on the market & move.
I am living in a declining area myself. And I suspect areas that were once nice but now losing value are prime targets for burglers. They figure theres still plenty of good loot left if they dont waste time, and folks are not likely to have neighborhood watch or decent alarms or regular police patrols.

Now that you guys got me thinking about it I am paranoid. Have been told many times in my life that a favorite tactic of burglers is to walk right up and ring the doorbell. If someone answers then they make up a story about looking for somebody and you just say "no, I think you have the wrong house" and they go away.
BUT.... if no one answers they assume its safe to go in and either explore a bit (case the joint) and then come back another day or they just go ahead and rob it right then.

I never thought much about it but we had a shady looking fella do just that the other day. He said he was looking for his girlfriend and must have had the wrong house. He was driving a small pickup with a topper on the bed, THAT DID NOT HAVE WINDOWS. Prime vehicle for burglary.
You know? One of these but no windows?
Those things are a lot less suspicious-looking than an SUV or van with the windows covered.
