I was right...I was being targeted for burglary :(

Story:

My neighbor got robbed last month and his neighbor last week. I figured I was definitely on the list as they had opened my gate during the first burglary.

I left at 8am got the call from a guy down the street from me that saw a truck when he got home at 11am then again when he was leaving around 11:30...told him it's no one I know. He calls 911 from the street which they witnessed and immediately the 'lookout' got on his cell and 3 other dudes came out of my home, jumped in a purple worktruck and fled.

My neighbor did not take the tag down.

*edit* a screwed up part of this was I was here by 11:45am...at 12:00 my neighbor had the same truck coming back around empty and driving right by all the police. Not good enough to get a tag number or facial of the perps. Definitely the same truck that did my neighbor's house in June though.

This was a no crime area up to 2 years ago...now it's a clusterfuck it seems.

If anyone is in the same situation, talk to alarmsystemstore.com for great recommendations and pricing. It's a mess.

Some of the 😕 stuff they took:

* BJ's size Charmin pack
* BJ's size Paper towel pack
* the rock I used to hold my gate open.
* a step stool
* a toaster oven, microwave and rice cooker...but left the Keurig Coffer maker and coffees worth about 5x those and much much smaller which they had to move out of the way for the toaster oven.
* a RCA/Video hookup cable.
* a coffee table that wasn't worth much but bulky as hell
* a pink cat clock

don't be an asshole. It's hardly the 'ghetto' although it's on a fast track with no HOA and 8+ dudes moving into investor property.

WTH?!?! I wouldn't take most of that stuff if you offered it to me. It certainly isn't worth risking jail for.

Palm Beach County, Florida....http://www.bestplaces.net/city/Lantana-Florida.aspx

A city in the same zip code (Lake Worth) tends to contribute to worse than real crime statistics. However, ours have grown dramatically in the last two years due to the housing mess and being a place that's more or less self-regulated.

That being said much of our block is attending the next town hall meeting in a week.

they took more than that...just ironic with some of the stuff they left behind. Fortunately although 3 laptops were taken...my PC being a giant tower was left behind. They had packed up my scanner but didn't have time to get it.

They cleaned out my garage pretty good until they jammed the table saw into the people sized door.

I am doing an inventory now, I am on my 107th CD (they took my Case Logic case, but I had all the cases on a shelf)...I am probably about 1/3 done.

Sucks. Sounds like a declining neighborhood. I recall you had a thread about a lawn not cut a few doors down. HOAs aren't needed for crap like that - code enforcement is. If your local community doesn't have code about uncut lawns, or if they're not enforcing it, then time to put the house on the market & move.

It must be some people you know who did it.
They took the majority of your most valuable stuff.

definitely no one I know. These guys have been seen doing other houses. We have the 'nicer' homes in the area lately.

Ah, that sucks. It would almost be amusing if they only took what was on the first list. I hope they find who's doing the burglaries.

Yeah I have been posting...it's been like an omen. I have been telling people I just knew I was going to be robbed and they thought I was nuts wanting to spend so much ($1700) on a security system.

sigh...

I did cut that lawn myself though last weekend. That's more related to a very old woman getting sick and having to abandon her home rather than being a bunch of people living there and not taking care of the place. She has terminal cancer and moved back near her family, leaving her house behind.

We have code enforcement, but that is a lengthy process esp if a home is in foreclosure. They notify, they get 14 - 30 days (depending on if just cutting a lawn vs removing large trees) then a follow up....

Selling my house would be a great way except I'd have to stroke a $130k check to sell it at even a liberal Zillow price.

That sucks dude. My parents' house got hit twice awhile back. First time they went in while my mom was asleep and took her purse and a couple of small electronics. A week later they came back ready to clean the house out but triggered the alarm that was just installed and they bailed.

I dont think you need an alarm system, but alot of stickers and signs, possibly a fake keypad. That should deter post would-be thiefs. I wonder who they had listening to the police radio to detect when someone was coming.

Maybe I missed some events, but did you still have the dog? Was he okay through all this?

Thieves suck. Sorry man. 🙁

I would not say your neighborhood is in decline...if this is the work of a small group, it's not some kind of random BS. Crime is going up, it happens everywhere. Upscale neighborhoods are more likely to get nailed in this fashion. It's just another part of life.

Buy an Alarm and anything else you need. Be warned, if anyone really wants to get in, they'll find a way.

You realize that criminals can drive to the nicer neighborhoods, right?

Check for your stuff being sold on Craigslist. Other than that, I hope your homeowner's insurance will cover the expensive stuff that was stolen.

I thought many departments had moved to digital transmissions that were encrypted, making police scanners useless.

Maybe they just had a lookout in the most likely spot that police would enter the neighborhood.

see the part where 15 mins later they drove by in an empty truck on video.

I realize your point though...not relevant here.

I thought the same, but soon after the neighbor called 911 the lookout got a call on the cell phone. At least, thats I read it and played it out in my mind.

Yeah he is ok...he is only 6months old and in a crate. Probably best he was during this.
