WHOA! That is ridiculous. I've never heard of that before. I thought if the cop didn't show your first time the ticket was dropped?!

BTW, if you picked the "next wednesday," isn't that today?
 
Funny thing is, almost the exact same thing happened to my wife. She went for her first date, plead not guilty. Went for her second date and sat through about 20 other trials waiting for her name to be called. Finally they were done with everyone and the judge asked her why she was still sitting there. She said she hadn't had her trial yet and gave her name. The judge or clerk said "the officer requested a continuance, didn't someone call you?" She was also not speeding, but it was her word against the cop's and she was found guilty at her next appearance.

Did you have a lawyer with you? Did you file a motion for dismissal when the cop failed to appear? Normally when one party fails to appear they are judged against automatically, and they would have had to file a motion for a continuance in order for it to be granted. 😕

Be sure to have more lawyers with you next time than the last time. If you have the resources, videotaping the cop giving a false ticket and then proving he was committing perjury would be a fun group project for later.

Yeah, this is what I'm afraid of. hevnsnt, have you talked to that lawyer about this? Did she give you any other advice. It seems to me that if you could bring your lawyer with you to trial to show that you're not concerned about money, you're concerned about what's right. But that's just me. I could be wrong.

If you didn't show up for court, you BET YOUR FVCKING ASS they would have entered a default judgement against you. What a load of horsesh|t. God damn I'd be so fvcking pissed.

I wish i was there at the scene and recorded your ordeal secretly with my camera. Then after the cop lies in the court, just sue him with the most expensive attorney of the city.... make him lose his job, and sue the state for monetary and punitive damages. omg, best christmas ever
 
I would have went and told the judge I was going to file a lawsuit against the police officer and state for Mental Anguish for 2 million.
 
You should have hired a lawyer or paid the initial ticket as now not only are you going to still have to pay you will pay many times more than initially. Each time you go back to court they will tack on more court costs and mutliply the fine sometimes. When you are found GUILTY, and you will be, the judge will then determine the fine and I can guarrantee you are going to get reamed even more. I admire your pricinciples but there is NO way you will win this. The cop will say you were speeding and the judge will believe him not you.
 
If you want to have any hope of winning this you need to start reading up on your local court proceedings. Do you really think either of the officers is going to tell the judge anything that will clear you? You already lost your best chance of getting off the hook when you couldn't come up with a legal argument against the continuance.

So what exactly are you going to do when you question the officer and he says he saw you speeding? I'll tell you. You'll stand there in disbelief as the judge rules against you.
 
Doesn't it not say the speed on the ticket though? Benson is probably right though, these courts just exist to give the illusion of fairness to the state revenue generation services.
 
I would file a copminat with the DA or whomever you do so when you want to file something against the police. That's rediculous.
