Conservatism has always been, and will always be, the smelly ass-end of history that everyone ultimately wishes to forget, and will deny having any part of, if they wish to maintain a shred of credibility. Like the teargassing and fire-hosing of Blacks in the Southern United States not much more than 40 years ago. From the dawn of history itself, to present day, it has not differed one whit. The Ratchet of Progress shall click forward, notch by notch, despite your protests. And the clicks are irreversible. And relentless.

Conservatism knows this. Despite its intent to maintain stasis, it cannot. It must morph. It must take the shape of the most quaint, most provincial, most believable forms of complete bullshit that it can get away with in order to survive, given the current set of circumstsances. It is, fundamentally, a Lie, despite its predictable grasps at Flag and God.

Progress, and progressivism, has always thwarted Conservatism, and it always will. Progressivism is the Ratchet itself. Progress can only move forwards. The ratchet can only "click" in that direction. It can only embrace the new discoveries, and leave old ideas behind like the garbage that they are.

Progressivism brought us Heliocentrism.

It brought us Democracy.

It brought us workers' rights.

It brought us Womens' Rights (tragically, we're still working on completion of that).

Hopefully, in the future, Homosexuals/Transexuals will have equal rights as well. This is the new Sexual front, and it's bloody.

In the end, Progressivism has had to fight, tooth and nail, Blood and Tears, to bring to Humanity practically ALL of the things that it takes for granted now, and enjoys quite greatly.

Scientific Theorems.

Human and Labor rights.

Boy, the opposition to this stuff is still FIERCE! Isnt it now? Don't let that Ratchet click! It only goes one way... Forwards! Gotta stop them FAGS! Gotta stop them STEM CELLS! All that GLOBAL WARMING mumbo-Jumbo!

Hell! Our very way of life is... in DANGER!!! OMFGTEAPARTY!!!

...

(Hey, maybe your shit is just, like... Obsolete?)

Conservatism = Fear, but also Arrogance. But mostly Fear.

Fear of Change.

Mostly, Fear of Change that Directly Disfavors The Conservative.

Gee, whiz. Whouldathunkit?

I'm pretty sure Progressives also brought us water, fire, and air as well. DAMN THOSE CONSERVATIVES WHO WERE ANTI AIR!!
Let's all take a few minutes from our busy days for a moment of silence and meditation...to pay homage and give thanks to people like Painman and all progressives...because without them, we would all remain in fear, arrogance, ignorance, and all manner of obsolete shit. Funny thing is...I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Choke on your own vomit.

Definitely did not want to get stuck in what I thought was going to be a traffic nightmare. Got a chance to see part of the rally inadvertently, walking at the edges of the crowd, about half a mile from where the speechifying was going on. It was that big. 1.5 million people. Isn't that something?

Slight exaggeration???

ABC News Link

The DC fire department only estimated 60,000 to 70,000 people.
I'm pretty sure PJabber is a compulsive liar.

Nope, it is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Of course, talking to 20 or so random participants is not a scientific sampling, so I only offered it up as a personal anecdote.

You were not there, so all you can do is repeat someone else's opinion or express your personal prejudices which are worse than useless.

I am registered as an independent and have no political party affiliation.

My perspective is that Palin is an extraordinary polarizing and charismatic figure that taps into the emotions of people. Look at how you have to continually bash her even if she is not in public office and is not a likely candidate. She has you by the balls without even trying!

nobody cares about her. What this little Politics forum? What amount of the population does that account for?

In the real world people don't even think about her anymore.

I don't think that's true at all. She pretty much single handedly created the 'death panel' issue. From a facebook post. It's not so much that she's stupid/dumb as it is she's incurious/ignorant. She didn't want to learn anything about policy, she just had her little idea and that's how she likes it. She's not a wonk and has displayed no penchant for deep thought at all. She likes the spotlight and she won't be going away, nor would we want her too, as long as she's around the 'fear' of someone like her getting real power helps frighten the left into voting. And the John Stewarts of the world have been desperate since W left the scene, Palin fills in the niche nicely.

That settles it...I'll laugh. You sir live in a very interesting world. Yes...progressives have had many positive effects on our society over the years...but are hardly worthy of such fawning worship....but on second thought...they did bring us all those Scientific Theorems.

Your depiction of conservatives is equally interesting...my fav is "(Hey, maybe your shit is just, like... Obsolete?)"

Let me clue you in on a little secret...the real world isn't nearly as black and white as you imagine it to be. I can only hope is that you're young and there's still hope for you. You know...it's OK to be a progressive...but marginalizing, stereotyping, and demonizing those who think differently than you does not reflect an intelligent perspective of a complex world. You might want to work on that unless you want to remain as ignorant as the very people that you despise so much.

What's funny about this, is it's basically the polar opposite of war protest threads from a few years back. Conservatives posting pictures of the whack-a-doodle lefties, arguing about crowd sizes, painting the whole with a single brush. The pendulum swings :)

All the Palin 2012 stickers I've seen around here beg to differ. What is even worse is that people are dead serious about them, too.

I sincerely hope she wins the GOP nomination for 2012, of course she would quit the race for personal reasons when it became obvious she was losing

I have the t-shirt. It's a conversation starter. The best is when you play it completely straight for the first minute and watch the incredulity crystalize in their eyes. Tips for playing it straight.

- smile but don't laugh
- assert she has more executive experience than mccain and obama combined
- complain mccain muzzled her when things got rough and that's why he lost
- point out dems changed the death panel provision after she raised it, ceding her the point

Taps into the emotions of people.....you mean like spreading lies and bullshit to ignorant republicans...which in turn fires them all up to get involved in these tea bag parties?

I generally think liberals were afraid of her when there was a possibility that she would be in a position of power...but now that she has insured that will never happen due to her stupidity...well there is not much else to do but point and laugh as she destroys her party.

If the freedom-hating communist media in Fake America would quit bugging her with those "gotcha" questions, then she'd be able to save us from the evils of birth control and evolution.
