Vista is basically Windows ME but newer. That's how I can explain it. Random glitches and crashes on brand new computers that shouldn't happen. I've seen it too many times and cannot agree that Vista is a worthwhile upgrade from XP.
Not only that but a lot of the Microsoft Power Tools no longer work on Vista. That is just ridiculous. I don't understand why they would do this!

I HATE HATE HATE HATE Vista.
I have very few problems with it...

same. Yes, I've had a few problems. But, FAR FAR FAR fewer problems than I've had with numerous XP installs. I'm glad to be rid of XP. I'm not sure why everyone loved XP so much... was it because it was so revolutionary compared to previous Windows versions? Although, it was pretty much Windows 2000 with a fisherprice GUI, albeit with an point-release upgraded Kernel - not much changed though.
Vista brought a new kernel version, with better structure, such as the audio stack now being separated from the kernel.
Now, a lot of the problems experienced with Vista at release, and even by some people to this day, are all due to terrible drivers. I've had my run in with bad drivers, and yes, it can cause many a headache. But now, with stable drivers by developers now experienced with the new kernel, my copy is Vista is 10x more stable than my XP copy, and that's on XP's best days.
Some points in time my copy of XP was more stable than at other points. And that alone was very strange. Again, various drivers and always-on software can seriously make or break an OS's ability to remain stable. But I've had some bad software on Vista and the system was still able to recover stability after taking care of the problem. With XP, the stability remained troubled even after taking care of the problem, or straight up BSOD'd instead of giving me a chance to nuke the problem.
I rarely could go a few weeks without a BSOD on XP. My Vista box is often running for more than a month at a time before I decide its time for a reboot to clear up resources once and for all.
Vista is not without its few problems though. But in comparison to XP, I'll gladly take Vista over XP any day. Yes, I'd prefer a better OS, but XP was not that better OS and not sure why everyone says otherwise.
Overall, Vista was a step in the right direction. Vista's v6 is a superior kernel, and I'm greatly anticipating Windows 7 (although, is 7 using the 6.x kernel or a new 7.0 kernel?). And I've seen some of the UI features of 7 and very much excited for the upcoming changes, because they look truly useful and timely for a new OS version.
If you are running a stable XP install, and don't care about the 'minor' improvements in Vista, then go ahead and keep running it. I don't care if everyone upgrades to the latest OS... but stop the retarded anti-Vista bullshit, because honestly it's played out at this point. I only understood it at the beginning, but even then it wasn't the fault of the OS, but rather bad drivers or a complete lack of driver support. I had this issue as I'm running Vista 64, but I didn't hop on when it released but after about 5 months as I knew there was driver troubles.
