I wanted to stock up on Windows XP...

January 30, 2009 is the real and actual final end-date for availability of Windows XP OEM System Builder versions, which is the last remaining vestige of Windows XP shipments.

I wanted to buy a couple extra copies of XP Home and Professional before the price goes up in response to dwindling supply. A little more than $1200 later, I think I should have enough to last for a while. 😕

Sometimes, I need someone to look over my shoulder while shopping and say "Are you f-ing serious?" This is exactly why I can't go into the Hot Deals forum anymore!

Oh well, at least I was able to put it on a credit card @ 0% interest for another 10 months.

Windows 7 is said to be just as bad as Vista, which means XP will be even more popular than it is now. I can't count the number of people I've spoken to that say they hate Vista but they don't have any choice in the matter. Luckily, a lot of them did choose the XP downgrade, so I was able to reload XP onto it for them.

I built a new computer and did dual-boot Vista/XP. I regret paying the $140 for another copy of XP Pro; I was worried that shit wouldn't work in Vista x64 and I'd have to use XP sometimes. I think I've started it up twice, and the first time was to get the drivers on.

Are they REALLY going to stop shipping Windows XP on January 30th? I thought that you could still get copies of it for Netbook computers.

Well, if Windows 7 is indeed as bad as Vista, I suppose I'll be installing it on release day.

I don't know what the hell all the Vista haters smoke (you guys probably are Apple fanboys I guess), but I've have 0 problems from day 1 with Vista. In fact, I like it better than XP. It runs faster, is easier to use, and looks better to boot. Vista 64 bit, not a problem in the world with it.

Preach brotha

lol, dumbass. Windows XP is ancient. It doesn't even naively support SATA devices and is completely unsecured. After using Vista for 2 years now, using XP is very annoying. Windows 7 is going on my MSI Wind the day it comes out.

Well, I suppose you can't walk into a store and buy it

M$'s letting netbook makers use XP Home till June 2010, in order to stop Linux from penetrating the market -_-

everything worked perfectly on my vista 64 system and i love vista.

i use xp on my netbook. does this mean future netbooks won't have xp? i'd be suprised if they stopped. xp is much better for a netbook.

I wish I had that much disposable cash.
So do I, that's why I used a credit card. 😕

Windows 7 is coming out soon. We'll see what happens to this so called investment.
Its an 'investment' to protect against certain price increases or decreased availability of Windows XP, not a gamble on the effect Windows 7 will have on demand for Windows XP. All the copies I just purchased will be used/gone before Windows 7 goes RTM.
