Can I just drive through? Do they stop every car? Is it like, super tight.. drug dogs, etc?

Do I just need my ID? How does it work? lol

I LOL'd.

Seriously though.

According to Google Maps, I would cross the border in some tiny little town on the border. Are there even stops? Or is it just like.. A sign that says Entering Canada? lol

Just need a drivers license to get into Canada, you need your passport to get back into the US though. And bring a 2-4 of Canadian, the guards will supply the rest ;)

Are there other "travel documents" that aren't going to take 6 weeks and cost 100$? lol

Welcome to Canada my friend! I see your in Oregon, visiting Vancouver and or BC (my home :)? Can't highly recommend it enough if you ask me. There's a reason we're called the California of the north. Beautiful weather, beautiful natural scenery, beautiful women, good food, good wine, lots of activities, wonderful city! If your going to the rest of Canada, well hmm not much I can say really... I'm sure someone living in Toronto can give you something or another to recommend. If you going out that way though don't forget to pack the zombie replant!

I think that a birth certificate and DL is enough to get over the border in a car still.

EDIT: In Michigan, you pay on the side which you are leaving and get questioned on the side you are entering. The border guards can and do profile, I have always been fairly lucky answering their questions promptly, but not suspiciously so.

I used to get pulled over when I was younger, especially if there was a few of us in the car.

Thanks for the insightful post..... :p

I'd be driving up through Washington, yeah.. Is it straightforward, or complicated? Do I really need a passport? I thought you didn't....

I would be visiting a friend in a town east of Vancouver..

Hopefully they're just as long and cost even more, anything to keep you out of my country.

passport

To go to Canada?!

Yes, it's another country.

We need a passport to visit you, why shouldn't you require the same to visit us?

I went two weeks ago to Buffalo.
Canada does not have the "War On Terror?" nor does it "Live In a Post-9/11 World©" and has different regulations.

From what I've heard (never been to the states) you'll sail into Canada with a couple questions; However, you'll be harassed 10x more re-entering the US, even as an American citizen.

you don't need a passport "officially" yet. original birth cert and driver's license will get you in.

A driver's license and birth certificate are enough to get FROM USA to Canada. HOWEVER you NEED a passport to get back INTO the US. Unless you're planning on staying there for a good long time and not ever coming home, you better get a passport before you leave.

Why would you think there'd just be a sign saying "Entering Canada" and that's it? It's another country. You'll also have to read the small print on your speedometer too because *gasp* those darn Canucks use the metric system!

Edit: Took out flame. Post is made out of jest.

I always recommend Canadian beer. ;)

If in Ontario, I recommend a trip to Harvey's for a great burger.

In Quebec I would recommend a nice Montreal smoked meat sandwich lunch.
