I want to BUILD something! (Electronics project)

I know this is random, hence the "Off Topic" forum I really want to build something, and make a project that has to do with electronics (either with or without computers), maybe robotics, with motors, IC's, maybe some soldering. I was looking into mini-itx...but it doesn't really involve anything technical....it's jsut basically a smaller computer.

I know this is a really broad question, but maybe there are some good websites, or even other forums that would help lead me to something?

I'd like to build an amplifier for my bass. HOW do i do it????? with stuff laying around the house and with spit and glue??

Go to the various amateur radio sites.

E-Ham and the ARRL site are places where you can get ideas.

You can make a transmitter that can be used for morse code, a link for data transmission throughout the world, or even make a powerful unit to bounce a signal off the moon, for transcontinental communications. Your imagination and your budget are your only limits.


Oh, get a ham license too.

You could also build your own speakers. Some skill is needed for constructing the crossovers (not really tough) and the completed speakers are dollar for dollar better than what you could buy.

Build a laser mike so you can surreptitiously record conversations inside buildings with windows. Typically a 900+ nM source is used at 100+ mW. You will need IR converter spectacles to view the target and make alignment so the reflected beam can be captured. The receiver is typically a simple photovoltaic converter which drives the front end of a simple op amp. Here you can apply the desired filters, namely bandpass to eliminate the effects of wind, aircraft, heavy walkers and structure resonance. Once fine tuned, it's quite amazing what you hear. Start out in residential areas first, then move to the city and try everything from corporate buildings to police and government buildings.

You could also build a TEMPEST receiver...

That sounds like a really kicks ass project, I'd love to do something like that. Have you built one of these yourself? If so do you have more information about this? I'm an EE student so I'd imagine I can probably understand/design a good part of the electronics if given enough documentation. PM me or post any additional information you have about this please .

they arent the easiest thing to build, take some research, multiple problems can arrise.

Audio or not, an amp works on the same principle. It's ancient stuff, not very interesting at all. How about a project that uses an amp?
