I want a Tablet

Athough I have an iPad now, I am still very accustomed to having my 7" Playbook when I travel, reading PDFs. 7" is just perfect for me for when I am at the airport and in the plane doing light reading.

Amazon has this market target on.

I don't get all of the hate for Android tablets, I think Honeycomb/ICS has an excellent UI and the app support is much better that the iFans make it sound.

its not that the app support is bad, but it is not as good as on iOS, at least for tablets, i have never used an iphone.

my best example is that there are better apps for google calendars and tasks on iOS than i was able to find for ICS. It pisses me off that this should be possible.

although when it comes to games i don't know much, i don't play games more complex than angry birds, i use mine for productivity.

If no, why not wait for Google's rumored Nexus tablet that will be released in 2-3 months?

Wife was looking with me. I think she wants a Kindle Fire. But she doesn't play any games. Just email, Facebook, read books, look at pics and listen to mp3s.

We got my 97 yr. old mother-in-law a Kindle Fire, and she love to. Music, video, photos, and books have really livened up her world. The controls are a bit wonky for a person with failing sight, but others should manage just fine. For what you get, it's one of (if not the) best tablet deals out there.

my mother loves her kindle fire.

i want something a little beefier so im waiting to see what effects the ipad3 and upcoming google tablet will have on the market. if apple can cram everything they did into the ipad3 for $500 then there better be some damn fine android tablets on the way for a fair price.

Wait for the Nexus ICS tablet.
She can do all what you mentioned on it and many more.

Nexus tablet is officially supported by Google.
Kindle Fire is a hack job by Amazon that while good, can never be compared to the Nexus tablet.
 
I haven't settled on a tablet yet. Right now, I am leaning towards an Asus Transformer of some variation but I am in no hurry. I'll see what comes out in the next month or so.

I ordered the wife the Kindle Fire. It'll be plenty for her. I'll play with it a bit before making up my mind.
 
Kindle Fire will work great for your wife! Good job on waiting for now. I have a iPad 2 and 16GB of storage isn't that bad actually. As little as 3.8GB gets me 8 hours of video content! So I could easily have 10 hours of content and still have plenty space left over.
 
Another question.
This came to me while looking at new TVs.
Can any tablet operate as a home theater remote control?

Aconia has a terrible screen, anything but looking at it straight at 90 degree angle will appear distorted (think laptop screens), you want something that has an IPS panel.

One criteria that you should list as well is your budget, that will be the key factor to determine a device for you.
 
If you can wait for the Infinity, that's what I would do. Tablets are gonna be dated once 1080p becomes mainstream this year.

These are decent tablets, but Moto and Verizon screwed the branding and naming 6 ways from sunday. Droid XyBoard are the Verizon LTE versions, Motorola XyBoards are the wifi only versions. The Verizon versions include a slew of bloatware apps from Verizon, while the Motorola versions are free of much of it. Odds are, the Motorola versions will see ICS far faster than the Verizon versions.

And I'll repeat what I said in my original hands on thread on the XyBoards, if Motorola had launched the Android tablet market with these, today's Android tablet landscape would look significantly different.
 
Just sold my Playbook to a coworker/friend. I just had no use for it. It's a pretty good tablet with mail now though, and damn cheap at $200 starting.
