Too many options and some manufacturers seems to make you really dig for specs.
Any help?

Needs:
Wifi
Touch screen 7"-10"
Memory card slot
Full size USB jack Ability to hook up a flash drive
Headphone jack
Built in speakers

I have 4G where I live and work.

What I want to do:
Browse internet/email
Play flash games
Play spider solitare, freecell, etc
Play MP3s
Read books
Watch videos
Picture slide show

TIA

The only item in that list that will narrow your options is the full size USB. That's going to be something of a tall order for most tablets. There are only a few that I'm aware of that have it.

The Acer Iconia is one of them.

Question is... does he mean the device needs a full size usb port or it needs a full size usb output? If it's the later pretty much all android devices do /w micro usb to usb cords... I can't see any reason for the 1st? Unless I am missing something.

Play flash games

TIA

I've had a asus transformer prime and the new iPad. The iPad is better IMO, better apps, better experience, you can do basically the same thing with both, with the exception of flash on the iPad. So if flash is crucial for you, get the prime.

That said, a word of warning, flash games suck ass on touch screens, flash has not been designed for touch screens, so going android will not allow you to play flash games.

I use both android and iOS, I go back and forth with which one I like more, but not in the case of tablets, my experience has led me to believe the hype, the iPad is currently better, and I can do just as much on my iPad as I could on my prime. In another year or so that might change, but for now, the iPad wins, the prime comes in second, and all the other tablets take up a distant third.

I have never seen a micro usb to usb cord. Didn't know they existed but it makes sense.

I'm a huge android fan and agree. I just bought a new iPad a couple weeks ago and love the thing. Now for a phone I still prefer android, but for tablets iOS is much better IMO (currently)

Most android phones out there use them AFAIK.... it's their charger and usb cable all in one. Kindles too.

I assume he wants that memory slot to be able to quickly load up and start watching videos/pictures/etc. This is one area where iOS's stock limitations are very noticeable (especially if media consumption is a big part of your gadget use).

Were it me, I'd get the Galaxy 8.9" Perfect size, rootable, dual camera. Limited to 16GB and no SD slot, so you have learn to live within those limits. Doesn't seem to bother the Macheads, so.....

That said, I love having 32GB on my phone, but then, I don't own a tablet.

Breaks what the OP wanted though. :p He'd have to get the dongle accessories.

That said, I really do like the Tab 8.9, got mine on BB's recent sale with the free dock. Any decent tablet moving forward NEEDs to have an sd card slot moving forward though.

Looked at them at Best Buy. Liked the size of the Acer Iconia.
Liked the OS on the Asus Transformer which the Iconia can't run.

As far as USB and a card slot, I don't want to have to hook up to a pc to add files. I want them on a mini sd type card or a flash drive.

Thanks for the help so far.

Not sure what you mean the Iconia can't run. I'm sure it will be getting ICS eventually, and CM9 is always an option. It's a Tegra2 device so I can't imagine a CM9 port will be difficult.

And there are a million and one ways of getting files to and from Android devices these days. Just send them over WiFi.

One of the advantages the Asus Transformers have is that they support NTFS drives via USB and Micro SD cards.

I have a Transformer Prime, and I think it would perfectly meet your needs with twice the power of your average Tegra 2 tablet.

I got Flash working on my iPad.

Can't use wifi at work, thus the need for external transfer/storage.

This is the one they had on display at Best Buy and the one I was referring to:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Iconia-A1...4012706&sr=1-3

That currently runs Android 3.2 HoneyComb. Far as I know, it will be getting Android 4.0 soon though. Its A500 and A200 brothers already have ICS.

Still, the A100 isn't a tablet I could wholeheartedly suggest. Its better priced at 280, not sure what BB is selling it for, but Acer has very poor build quality and screens. If possible, they should be avoided.

If you can find one, go with the Asus Transformer Prime.

I would avoid Tegra 2 as much as possible, OMAP 4, Exynos and Tegra 3 deliver much better performance in tablets.

I don't get all of the hate for Android tablets, I think Honeycomb/ICS has an excellent UI and the app support is much better that the iFans make it sound.

I agree that is why my next tablet will be a Android to see what I been missing.

With this change from the OP, I'd prop up the Motorola XyBoard 10.1.
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...ablets/MOTOROLA-XYBOARD-10-1-with-WI-FI-US-EN

Moto's offering free shipping, and bluetooth keyboard & mouse with them. Their WiFi versions will get ICS before their Verizon Droid branded versions though, if you want to go under contract for mobile data.

Nearly any tablet offers methods to connect external storage with a dongle or adapter.

+1 for the Xyboard. i have the 8.2' version and absolutely love it, the display is excellent, the build quality is top notch, and it's stock Honeycomb with no custom skin to slow things down. The Xyboard 10.1 also has an active digitizer for pen input and is supposed to have a nice note taking app included to go along with it.

I like the Galaxy Tab 7.7, now if only Samsung weren't so slow pushing out updates....

Devices I own:
iPad 3rd Gen
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 7.7
HP Touchpad (Dual-boot CM9)
Asus Tranformer

It's a bit much, but at the end of the day, I use the Transformer the most since it allows me to be more productive. And iPad lives on the couch where I do brainless content consumption.

If I had to choose one, I would choose TF w/ the keyboard. If I wanted something smaller/portable, then Galaxy Tab 7.7 by far, I think it's the best portable form factor for a tablet.
