Looking to replace my mini maglight with a small rechargeable (if not rechargeable it uses AA batteries) flashlight. LED technology is out there and I need to get into it!

Looking for a great value vendor or product out there on the interweb!
 
Fenix has a series of lights such as these iirc they're they LOP's, E1's, and E0's

if your looking for something rechargeable and mazingly bright look into the P1D CE which uses a cr123 battery (they have rechargeable versions)

another option might be L1 and L2 D's which are the 1x AA and 2x AA LED lights

And do you >really< need rechargable? Do you use this mag-light hours a day?


 
Theres a lot around from $10 to a couple hundred (professional/law enforcement grade). Personally, I love my $50 Aurora headlamp. If you don't mind spending that much, it's an incredible light. The same can be said for most other LED headlamps. They fit in the palm of your hand, multiple LEDs, illuminate an entire area and batteries last forever. Been using mine since last summer, and it's still bright with the original 3 AAA batteries.

Check out THIS thread for some background. Basically, a chinese venture made these 1AA lights for very cheap, ~6 dollars. This is kind of crazy because just a year or two ago, these kind of lights (1w luxeon AA) were being made by CPFers and sold for $50 or more. People buy them up, love the bang for the buck. Then some enterprising people discovered that not only could these lights be had for cheap, they were very easy to upgrade, and with a 7 dollar CREE LED from the same place, you had a pretty incredible light. Long story short, lots of mods and raving followed. UNTIL...the chinese venture (who actually split up in the meantime) decided to start selling this light with the CREE already installed for less than the cost of the two components. No modding required and oh, we'll throw in a nice aluminum reflector too. His competitor (former partner) offers pretty much exactly the same LIGHT except instead of an upgraded reflector, it has a glass lens and better o-rings.

Gotta love competition...

Geek is teh new sexy these days so lonely does not compute! Goatee, messy gelled hair, pocket protector, starbucks coffee, razr, laptop and they are hanging all over you.

My Dad brought over a neat little 10 LED Streamlight he had in his shop when I told him of my old mini maglite finally giving up the ghost. He has flashlight and watch fetishes so I think I made his day when I told him I was flashlight deficient!

The Streamlight has a nice foot to 2 foot focal range with a good foot to 2 foot diameter spot. The light is fantastic for lighting up an area. I am liking that. I know I liked the mini maglite for its focusing ability and longevity, but LED is just nicer light when you get older. The bright blueish/white light makes things easier to see than the old yellowish/orange indancescent or whatever.

Don't really need it. Just figured I leave the light laying on my desk anyway and would be np throwing it in a charger there. From looking around the web I see LED's are working quite well off of regular battery power anyway.

The Cree light you posted about sounds cool! In for one!

And oh yeah...Woot! Dartworth is back! :thumbsup:
 
I have a Fenix L2D CE and a Fenix L2T. Both are great lights and about the same size and form factor. I wear one on my belt everyday for work.

The L2D with the CREE LED is amazingly bright.
