Its too bad that the phenomenon of the old school hometown theater is kinda dying off with "megaplexes" taking their place.

I've never been to anything but a megaplex and a drive-in.

I was at a megaplex that had a fire on the roof while we were watching "28 days later" right towards the end, when all the zombie killing really steps into high gear. What bad timing. I had to download it to find out how it ended. Luckily they let us come back w/ our old tix and watch something else.

He plays a pretty good convict with homosexual tendencies in Starsky and Hutch, though.

i really enjoyed anchorman

i was at independence day the day it came out july2nd. Right when the alien spaceships start blowing out the city, i guess the sound was really intense, and the audio cut out right when the beam hit the city. At first i thought like "oh, some dramatic effect? that's odd no audio what so ever" then you see people talking to each other and no sound.
The audio cut back in and out for another 15 minutes before being restored. My parents (who i was with) and i were about to leave, when the people in front of us had formed an angry mob around the manager, who handed out free movie ticket vouchers. We didn't really care/wern't angry but we just picked some up and left. The manager actually gave the 4 of us 10 vouchers, which was nice.

you weren't pushy enough. The best way to get places in this country is to be an annoying a-hole.

yeah. sad, but yeah.

when I saw The Matrix for the first time, the projector broke down right in the middle of the Neo-Agent Smith fight scene (they're in the subway, with their guns pointed at eachother and both out of bullets... then the screen burns up and turns white). my friend's girlfriend harrassed the manager into giving everyone 2 free tickets (one to see the movie again, and one to make up for the experience).

That's weird, because exactly the same thing happened to me- the primary projector broke down at roughly the same place, then the secondary projector a few minutes later. We got fed up, everyone got their money back, and we went up to the new Odeon cinema in town to watch the first hour or so of the move again just so we could see the end.

Weird :)

Some people would rather be more mature and civilized than lower themselves and their self-respect just to get the cost of a movie ticket back.

true, but when cost of movie ticket is 8 bucks
and you have a family of 5
thats 40 bucks

and thats four 12 packs of my favorite brew

true, but but but but but... Your self respect is only worth $40??

I don't see self respect as an issue, at least not when I'm paying for something and not getting the service I expect.

When we went to see ROTK, there weren't 3 seats that were all together. The usher told us that our 7yr old daughter could sit on our lap and they'd give us a refund for her seat.
After the movie, the manager wouldn't give us the refund because my daughter still saw the movie.
Even after she found the usher, and the usher admitted to telling us about the refund, she still denied us a refund for the one ticket. I then complained about the entire row of loud people behind us - she finally gave me 1 free ticket.

I came home, posted on some local forums about it and many locals chimed in about problems with out people at the exact show. I then sent an email to corporate Kerasotes about the whole ordeal.
Within 24 hours the manager from the theater called and apologized. She sent me 20 free movie tickets.
yes, 20.
I lost no self respect, and got to watch plenty of free movies.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a "Kerasote"??

Oh, and I agree w/ Excelsior while Anchorman was good, Old School was definitely better.

Unfortunately, it didn't get any better and we left about an hour in. Don't waste your money or time.

Will Farrell is just not knock-out funny. he has his moments, but it's like you're always waiting for the punchline with him.

The only movie I almost left the theater midway through was the latest incarnation of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I absolutely could not stand it. My family was still watching it so I decided to stay rather than sit out in the lobby by myself.

Some folks would rather hide in their panties and get treated like a Tiger Stadium toilet than speak up when they have been wronged, I pay $5 for a 20 cent tub of popcorn as protection/entertainment money to the cinema that I expect to:
#1. keep me comfortable (elements)
#2. deal with people who are not there to see the movie (kick out kids that talk "yo bioch, gimme my tamales!")
#3. keep the movie rolling

If they don't keep their end of the bargain then they should invite me back free of charge to buy another $5 tub of popcorn.
This has nothing to do with self respect.

Its funny how opinions can differ so much.

I think Will Farrell is one of the better comedians of our time. His off the wall humor is very funny! I love him in Zoolander.

Agreed. Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, and Ben Stiller all suck at humor. All it resorts to is them acting like they are stupid and the audience buys it and laughs.

There were a LOT of funny scenes in Anchorman. Now that I think about it, they were definitely concentrated later on in the movie, there were some laughs at the start but more spread out.

You should have stuck it out. You probably would've come away with a different view of the movie.

Although Jack Black just wasn't funny. Oh well.

how is self-respect an issue when you just want your money back for a service that you paid for and not receive? it's not the money, but its the principle of it. with a $8 movie ticket comes a $5 bucket of popcorn, a $4 drink etc... what lousy country do you come from that you think it is lowering yourself to get your money back for poor service? in America, companies should provide a service that customers pay for or be prepared to have people wanting their money back. we're not all stuck up, pampered little babies like you where it is ok to see our money being flushed down the toilet.

Bah. I see people whining like assmonkeys when the screen cuts out for a few minutes and bitching until they get something free, like they deserve it. That pisses me off. I've been in a few movies that cut out for a few minutes, but I got a nice bathroom break and I got to see the rest of the movie. No big deal. Then, I walk outside, and some guy is screaming at the manager in front of his wife and kids, acting like afore-mensioned assmonkey and setting a great example for his kids, that he deserves 50,000 free movies because he had to wait 5 minutes between two scenes.

I hate that. I'd never thought about actually writing to the parent company, though. Very sensible. Still, as long as I get to finish the movie in a reasonable time frame, I'm relatively happy. :)
