i walk past this mustang almost every day...

And it confuses me. I noticed several weeks ago that it was wearing huge, like 315 rear rubber. I happened to have my camera with me today so i shot some pictures of it. Looking back at the pictures once i got them off my camera, i noticed two odd things. First, it has a "supercharged" badge under the GT. I suspect this was just added by the owner. And in the pictures, what the heck is that silver bar under the rear bumper?

Looks to be a Roush charged mustang, and yes if it matches some other's i've seen, i'd say after market sway bar.

Don't race it unless you're mad serious. The type of person who buys those wheels buys them because he *has* to. ~10s 1/4 territory if it's done right.

Pretty clean look if the car's actually done up correctly. I can't see the bar you're talking about though...why not ask the guy what he's done to it? With the amount of money he's spent, he probably enjoys talking about it as much as possible.

Almost looks like braided stainless lines with red anodized AN fittings often used in a fuel cell in that position. ? Lots of glare on my monitor this morning.

Yeah, looks like braided hose of some kind.

Definitely not a sway bar. My guess is fuel cell as well.

People usually put low profile tires and big shiny rims on their car if they are just trying to look cool.

Usually plain rims, a good amount of sidewall, and 300 series rubber mean business; they are on there for a reason. Looking at the width of the tread divisions, those look like drag radials too.

You can put all the power adders and cubes and nawwwwwwz on your car you want and tell me you have 1000 HP, even if it's true and you have a dyno slip, but when you're running 195 rubber bands on the drive wheels on your 3500 lb car, I'm going to laugh at you and take your money.

I can't tell from the pics, thats way too far away from the axle to be a suspension component. Possibly a sumped fuel tank and external fuel pump line? Anyone with that sort of setup is serious business.

If this is all correct I wouldn't doubt that car was indeed supercharged and pushing 500+ to the wheels.

I have a pretty good feeling that the guy that owns that car isn't just trying to 'look cool'

Nope, looks to be quite a sleeper. Appears to even be a stock unassuming exhaust even. But sleepers don't put 3 "supercharged" emblems on the car either so *shrug*

I was going to guess the bottom of the pumpkin. That's a solid rear axle on those rustangs.

I was going to guess the bottom of the pumpkin. That's a solid rear axle on those rustangs.

1) It's not even inline with the wheels, how can it be an axle component? It's a good 3-4 feet from the pumpkin to the rear bumper

2) The rear end be it solid or IRS in those cars is obscured by the fuel tank and exhaust system; it's not really visible unless you are 10 feet back and have your ear on the ground.

3) All RWD cars have pumpkins, not just those with solid axles.

Not surprised someone throwing around words like "rustang" doens't even have basic common sense on cars. 🙂

Looking at it closer, I too see what appears to be red fittings at the ends. He ditched the returnless system for a sumped tank and external fuel pump. Definitely packing something, that's not a mod you do for style or any other tangible benefit other than because you have to in order to support some power.

Definitely a fuel cell or some type of external pump.

That guy isn't likely a poseur since that type of mod takes a lot of work and isn't done for image. I'd say he has a bit of a sleeper, if he popped his hood you'd likely see more mods than Michael Jackson's face.

I think that was his point, since those tires aren't extreme low-profile and the wheels aren't gaudy.

This car obviously belongs to someone who knows what he's doing, and I think that he's showing just enough to let other knowledgeable people understand what's going on "under the skin" but not so much that a casual observer would catch on. In other words, if you know what to look for, you'll know enough not to race this guy for pinks. If you don't know what to look for, well, you'll learn quickly. 😉

1. what i'm looking at could be fairly inline at the angle the picture was taken. i don't really see much under the car except for shadow.

2. not necessarily. i've seen a number of SRA vehicles where the bottom of the pumpkin is quite visible.

3. the pumpkin on a vehicle with IRS is typically much higher than one with a solid axle and doesn't give the same "pumpkin" effect.

and i say "rustang" because i make fun of all fords and mustangs for a long time were rather terrible cars. i grew up around corvettes and chevelles, so i'm a chevy guy. although, i do applaud ford for not taking the federal bailout money. my next truck will be a ford unless i can get a steal on one of the new coil sprung dodges.

Thanks for the replies guys. confirmed my suspicions that this guy probably means business. I'm hoping to catch the owner getting in/out some day and see if they'll spill the beans. 🙂

...and give me a ride!

See my enhancement above.

Ahh, I love rollin around on my cheater slicks. 13" wide MT Drag Radials on stock camaro wheels definately do the job.
