I used to own a car, now I own an empty parking space and a police report number.

Notfred, think about all the other things in your life and know that it will get better. Remember how much you've helped me with Java? Because of those, I'm much better at it than I would have been and am getting an A in the class, which is not very easy to get. You've helped people like me.

You've got to realize that people out there remember you, at least half of everyone in OT knows you because of your car, whether it's stolen or not. The only thing to do is keep working hard in life and it'll get better. Tough these hard times out and you'll be thankful later because later on you'll be able to learn from your mistakes, oh yeah, that reminds me, don't stress over learning from your mistakes just yet, give it a few months, everything will fall into place when the time is right.

Tyler, I feel your pain. It's actually making me tear up and cry because I know how much work you put into that car. I know what it's like to work on something and put your heart into it, and get it stolen from you. As others said, suicide isn't the answer. I truly hope you are able to get back on your feet. To all those saying "It's just a car", you have no idea how much work, and his life, notfred put into this car.

Good luck notfred. I hope you recover your car.

What happens from here? How does insurance take care of things?

I think a valuable lesson here is....

for a car that nice get FULL COVERAGE!!!! Regardless if it won't cover the engine mods and stuff like that, but at least you'd be compensated for part of your loss.

Good luck man, I hope everything works out!

Oh yeah, an alarm would be a good idea too...if you can spend $2500 ( or whatever it may be) on engine parts you can spend $500 on an alarm.

Shiat.....I had hoped that the broken window and jacked stereo was the worst :|

Maybe it was just a joyride, and it'll turn up without too much missing :)

Any chance you can get the hell out of Sacto? My ex had her car swiped there, it turned up with a bunch of drug paraphenalia in it :Q

Hang in there, sounds like the bottom. It will get better from here!

I agree with Skoorb and others. Things might seem really crappy right now, but they will get better. You have a good future ahead of you regardless of recent life events.

Hope you feel better dude.

WRONG.

Thats what alarm companies tell people.
Open the hood remove battery. 2nd, find power wire to alarm, remove. Next hook battery back up and drive away.

Alarms will stop joy riders and rookies, they will NEVER stop the pros.

The best thing rigth now is to have On-Star in your car/truck. If it gets stolen, call GM (On-Star) and just ask "Dude... Wheres my car!!!" :)
Uhh... you know that the alarm will go off if the hood is opened right?

On-Star OTOH knows where you car is even when you have it, and that is an invasion of privacy that I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with.

And the alarm on my car has ignition kill and fuel shutoff. I suppose they could steal it with a tow truck...
Ah, but can onstar track a car that's in a shipping container on its way to southeast asia?
;)

Ahhh? YEA. Hence the GLOBAL part of GPS (Global Positioning Satellites)

And to the people that say, ?Well the alarm will go off it you try and disconnect it??? How many people here run to the street or parking lot when they hear a alarm?? OK, how many people get MAD and wish that idiot would cut the alarm off?? No one cares nowadays. When I hear one I get mad, like most, and want ti to be turned off. If it goes off then cool, that is all I care about. Abd it only takes a couple of seconds to take a battery cable off.

A little follow up...

I bear no ill will to notfred. He is going through some rough times, and that is HIS business, not mine. It will get better. He's not weak enough to off himself. That would require a complete lack of respect for himself, and moreso for his family and friends. From reading his posts for years, I do not see that quality in him. So, all of you getting your panties in a bunch about it, can chill out.

I was just illustrating the irony behind the theft of his beautiful car and how he has craped all over other car threads. I'm sure this pride spills over into other mediums.
I've had a car stolen, and it really sucks, so I can empathize. Though, not having comp. on a car like that is foolish. :(

FYI: If the car is in a container GPS is USELESS. It needs to have a clear view of the sky to work. Metal != clear view of the sky.

And yes, you can disconnect a battery quickly. But any half decent car alarm will continue to be "active" when you reconnect the battery. To disconnect the battery, disconnect the alarm, and reconnect the battery takes time. Then, there' still no guarantee the start disable won't still be active. It makes the theif's job that much tougher and that's the whole point. I'm not naive about an alarm being an absolute protector. I do realize tho that it protects me where it counts, at home, where I can hear the alarm from inside the house and figure out if it was just a loud car or something to check out.

Damn, Tyler; I go away for a few months and you go and get your entire life situation all jacked-up to hell! WTF happened, dude?

Holy crap...after the whole girl/moveout thing, your ride gets boosted...I dunno what to say. I'm sorry and I feel badly for you. :(

Unfortunately, you carried no insurance to reimburse you for what was under the hood. As Pliablemoose said, it's usually not worth it anyway due to the frickin' morons that you would have to deal with to file the claim.

It's just one of those things you have to deel with, unfortunately.

If you feel like chatting, maybe w/someone you usually don't chat with, I'm here, bud. PM me and I'll give you my cell number.

Good luck to you and I wish you well.

I don't think he wasn't questioning the ability of On-Star to track a stolen car in a shipping container on its way to SE Asia, I think he was questioning your ability to then retrieve it, even with On-Star's ability.

The sound of an alarm is just to upset the thief -- scare away the jockey-box brats and the rookies, and alert you to come out running if the car is in front of you house.
Good alarms lock down an entire car the second they are tripped, and then they can only be unlocked by a signal from the key fob. While a pro thief may still be able to get inside the car by beating the lock-down system, the alarm will still activate the second a door is opened (hard enough to do), and the ignition, fuel systems, and ECU will still be shut down. Like I said, the thief better have a tow truck (or my keys).
I had one of these systems in my old Integra, and out of almost 20 attempts on the car, only 1 thief got inside, and not one was actually able to drive off in the car.

edit: and even the 10 year-old Alpine alarm in my '93 Toy 4x4 still works (and is still going off) after the battery is disconnected and then reconnected. Tested that myself.

I don't know what to say, normally I'd say whatever, the car is insured, but not so here. I don't understand how you can say comprehensive insurance is too expensive, but have all that money for parts and mods, especially for a car parked outside.

Anyways, that's terrible, thieves deserve to have machetes shoved up their asses. Anyone reading this thread whos from norcal keep an eye out for his car.

oh man. That completely sucks, man.

Stick with it, things will get better.

Maybe ask for paypal donations of something.

That was NICE car, too.

I, on the other hand, own a 1991 Sable, paints fading, mismatched taillights, dent in trunk, massive hail damage.

And I'm volunteering at a school in one of the really poor parts of Saint Louis city. So I parked in the school's lot, do my thing, go out to my car.

I realize two things: 1)keys locked in car (D-fscking-OH!) 2) keys in ignition, big, brightly colored keychain draws the eye like crazy.

The car is parked on a streetcorner. and yet is was probably safer than the 2003 silver mustang (belonging to another volunteer) parked next to it.

heh, having a crap car cuts down on its likelihood to be targeted.

I don't know what to say, after the work and money you've plowed into that mustang, it is absolutely horrible to loose it now. Some monkey-porkchop is now driving around in your totally sweet car -- and it means nothing to him because all he did to get the car was break a window.

argument for vigilantism, maybe?

OnStar is way easier to locate and remove than an alarm brain. OnStar units are always located in the same place. One snip of the antenna wire... done.

"Mr. Cent, we've found your Escalade! It's moving southbound on... dammit."

I've got an alarm on my car, and there haven't been any attempts, but there also isn't much worth stealing. Alarms are worthless and annoying. Next time space out your parts purchases more and pay insurance the entire time.

It's just a THING dude.

I got mugged, my fiancee broke up with me, I got a $1500 medical bill for stitches after being mugged, I got denied for a promotion at work, and now my car got stolen. Those are the biggest ones.

Wow, I'm very sorry to hear of all the recent mis-fortunes. :(

Any car alarm system will automatically deactivate if you tilt the car by 15 degrees or more. This is a legal requirement to keep the alarms from going off continuously if the car gets towed. In other words, all you need to disable the alarm is a big jack.

Sucks the car is gone man. Hopefully someone spots it soon.

Do stolen cars in your area usually get driven around or end up in chop-shops?

Like others said, post on Mustang enthusiast boards, someone will spot it if it's still being driven.
