Moonbeam, follow MY posts in the evolution thread and respond with a serious, rational, and logical response. For me popular opinion is invalid as evidence, so I don't care what the majority opinion is...I take a serious look at what both sides of an issue have to offer and base my conclusion on what the evidence supports, regardless of the popularity of my conclusion. And I could care less if someone has 10 degrees or no degrees, if he has evidence to support his opinion I'll take it seriously.

NO scientific evidence has shown the universe/earth to be older than 6,000 years either.

<< The ONLY 'evidence' that exists to the contrary is one of 5 different interpretations of some passage in the Bible. NO scientific method has shown the earth/universe to be 6,000 years old - NONE. >>

truer words have not yet been spoken. i have personally argued with some of these creationists (crazies). they can't understand that the bible is not a source of scientific evidence.

I really try to stay out of these arguments, but that statement just struck me as... well, it struck me.

One of the many famous religious rocks. They won't crawl out from under it either, so don't even bother. Facts don't interest them, only their own opinion. Or at least the one of the person they believe is right.

petrek, I don't want to go back and read those posts. I'm not inspired to. I feel it would be a waste of my time. I am a complete closed minded bigot. I am absolutely sure I am right and you are wrong. So sure that I have no interest in arguing. Why would I? You have no case. I have looked at the evidence before me in the earth and in DNA. We don't go back to a five thousand year old Eve. She is way way older, but I don't care. Unlike you I am not serious, even though I too don't care whether you have ten degrees and everybody believes in creationism. I was taught that evolution is the truth. It's in my textbooks and that's the end of it. My testbooks can't be wrong. They are based on science. Science says a steam engine or a car or a plane will work. Do you want to ruin everything and say that science is wrong. Do you want to wake up tomorrow with industry at a standstill because all the machines stopped. Do you want the planets flying off into space because science is wrong. Please think about your herasy. Science is right. It's got to be right or it's the end of the world. If we didn't evolve we could just disappear like that. The universe is sustained by a gigantic mutually agreed upon mass psychosis. Don't rock the boat.

Hahah, take up to name calling before he can get onto it huh? :) But really petrek, all that popular belief mumbo jumbo, guess why it's popular? You should have learned why it's popular in the fourth grade, come on now...."do YOUR research"

<< I happen to know the most ignorant person in the world. He once mentioned that he thinks the world is a few thousand years old. Seriously. >>

I can beat that. I work at home Depot, and a guy asked me what he is supposed to dig a hole with in his yard for a tree. I answered a "shovel" and he had no clue what it was. I took him over and showed him in garden, while the other assoc I was with followed just to see what was going to happen. The guy asked how to use it, so I demonstrated outside, then he asked if he could rent one.

I am 100% serious. I have management proof. The guy must have lived under a rock for 40 years. ( and no, he spoke perfect english. He looked like your average next door guy. )

You can find the book of Evidence in the reference section of the library, right next to the book of Facts.

Evidence exists in the minds of men, and no two men think alike. Evidence of something is for some, the same evidence of something entirely different for others. Vice versa.

Ok, someone explain this to me. I haven't done MY research.

Carbon 14 is what most scientists use to measure how old something is. That's how they found out the Earth was 4.6 billion years old, correct?
Based on this site, Carbon 14 is only good up to about 50,000 years. Anything that was over 50,000 years old would be considered incorrect based on the carbon levels. So how can people say the Earth is 4.6 billion years old?
I'm not trying to start up an arguement here, just curious as to how people can use C14 to date the Earth when it's only good up to 50,000 years.....?

Yzzim, C14 is NOT the only isotope dating method. Read the evolution thread, I link to a few different sites on the topic of dating methods and their flaws.

Which one is the evolution thread?

I really hope it's the thread with 488 posts. I love reading through that many posts.

damn, i was going to be facetious and post 6000 years, but petrek beat me to it :p

while i'll admit that i personally am not proficient in science enough to make my own conclusions, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that the vast majority of scientists are in some giant conspiracy, and that popular opinion is against your reading for no good reason (esp. considering the majority are christian). lemme guess, you think dinosaurs never existed?

no, if you read my post, you would have understood that i do in fact believe dinosaurs existed.

so what, you think they're no more than 6000 years old? and no, i personally do not think they are that young, in case you're going to tell me i need to study more.

You were taught that evolution is the truth... it's in your textbooks, that's the end of it.

Four hundred years ago, people were taught that the earth was flat. Anyone who dissented was branded a heretic and a scientific idiot.

Who's to say the same can't happen today?
