I thought the world was only 5 million years old...

Is it 5 million or 5 billion? I get them confused. If it's 5 million, then how is this possible?

<< Scientists find Jurassic Age dinosaur vomit >>

I see nothing about the age of the planet on there.

Yes, it's BS. Current estimates place the age of the Universe somewhere betwee 12-20 billion years.

Most scientists say that the universe is somewhere around 15 billion years old give or take a few billion depending on who you talk to, so I would say that whoever says "hundreds of billions of years old" is full of sh!t unless of course they happen to know what was before the big bang.

<< Heck, I thought it was more on the order of 15 billion years, or is that the universe? >>

Earth: 5 billion years old (give or take few hundred million years)
The Universe: 15 billion years old (give or take few billion years)

I happen to know the most ignorant person in the world. He once mentioned that he thinks the world is a few thousand years old. Seriously.

Scooters, maybe you need a hearing aid. You haven't heard anybody who knows anything talking about hundreds of billions of years.

There is some religious guy on cable, the 'set' of his cable show is filled with fossils and skeletons of prehistoric creatures, both genuine and replicas. He was arguing the earth is only five or six thousand years old, because that's what the Bible says (a 'day' of creation equals one thousand years in man's time). He then went on about carbon dating, claiming that because there is some margin of error, the whole method is flawed. What a nut.

petrek, what are we going to do with you. Nothing, not all the evidence that is the world, can convince you of anything but what you want to believe, and nothing that you can say will convince the vast majority of people to think anything other than where ordinary scientific principles point to, an ancient earth. Somebody is deluded and my money says it's you.

Moonbeam, you said "and nothing that you can say will convince the vast majority of people to think anything other than where ordinary scientific principles point to, an ancient earth." when you meant to say that "nothing will convince the vast majority of people to think anything other than what they are told to think regardless of what evidence exists to the contrary".

The ONLY 'evidence' that exists to the contrary is one of 5 different interpretations of some passage in the Bible. NO scientific method has shown the earth/universe to be 6,000 years old - NONE.

Creationists can only point to flaws in scientific methods and say the earth isn't what these methods say it is, but they have yet to develop any accepted scientific methods of their own that show their interpretation of some passage in the Bible, just one of many interpretations, is correct.

Proving someone else wrong does not automatically prove you are correct.

Just another way to attack someone's faith and beliefs.

How sad that there are so many lives wasted on putting people down instead of building people up.

Agreed. The thing is that they seem to look at the bible, intrepet in some certain way, and the try to to prove that theory to be correct. Shouldn't they just look at available evidence and form theories based on thse evidence, and not the other way around (not form a theory and then invent "evidence" to support it)?[/i] >>
