hm.. 32gig sd at 1080p = only 4 1/2hrs record time?!

if I'm using 720p, will I be able to see the license plate clearly?

Dunno. I use 1080p and can see everything clearly. I read somewhere that 32 GB will give you 5.5 hours of record time, but I rarely drive that long so its not an issue to me. Maybe once every few years. If its a concern, bring a spare card and swap it in. My wife drove for 2 days before I pulled the card and got the video off of it and there was no problem.

Just tried it out.

Model G1W-C
Trancend 4GB micro SD card
Audio recording turned OFF
Loop set to 2 minutes at 1080
Temp 90+ Sunny
Powered from a lighter socket that is always on.

I got 18 - 2:01 minutes of video with a 4GB card. When the 19th video starts it deleates the oldest.

When you change settings you must turn the unit off with the power button. At least I have not found any other way to save them. May have over looked something in the manual. Even though it shuts down and saves the video fine when the power is unpluged. It won't save any settings that have been changed

I left it recording while waiting in line at the tag office. And let it record while in the docs office. Heat did not seem to affect it.

I have it mounted with the rear view mount. The Ford 150 has some kind on module mounted there also. It just clears that and is just below the mirror. It is hard to see from outside the truck. I used a black sharpie to "paint" the shiny ring around the lens.

do you need more than 4.5 hours of record time? hypothetically the dash cam is used in event of an accident so you'll really only need a couple minutes of footage. I would set it to the 5 minute loop (vs 1 or 2 minutes) and happily let it overwrite the old footage every 4.5 hours or so.

I am considering a slightly more expensive cam with GPS and a "quick connect" into the mount so I can just pull it if I'm in a seedier part of town.

Went ahead and ordered a G1WH, 32GB Transcend microSDHC card, and 10ft usb cable. I hope it all works out and I never need the footage 🙂

damn this thread, just impulse-bought a Mobius for the new car I'm getting next week.

Mobius is an excellent camera. Good choice on buying it.

I have G1W and use a 16gb card with it. I used plasti dip for the front face so none of the shiny stuff at the front of the camera gets attention.

thought the g1w varieties doesn't take microsdhc?
just microsd?

As far as I know, there are 7 manufacturers of G1W camera. You may get lucky and get a camera that accepts a 64gb MicroSDXC card no problem.

SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) up to 32 GB FAT32 file system
SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) up to 2 TB exFAT file system

The G1W works with FAT32.

ahh.. maybe that's where I got mixed up.

unless microSD has some lower requirement?

I got a Mobius after some guy in a mustang ran a red light and lucky for both of us he stopped but I still had to take evasive action

I put a capacitor in and its been recording for almost a month now.

I can view video on my phone from it with an adapter

tell me more :hmm:

my Mobius came over the weekend, but there's not a whole lot I can do with it at the moment (since I'm planning on buying a new car next week, not going to bother getting it setup in my current car... I also need to buy like a 15' micro USB cable for it)

Well by "from it" I mean from the sdcard

QppYpfFl.jpg

OTG adapter > USB card reader > SD to micro adapter

Copying the 500mb files to my phone takes about 3 min so I can do that before police arrive and keep the SD card safe.

I wanted Möbius because it was small so I'm OK with that.

Tempting...

I wonder how good the Garmin version is. Came out in the last year, IIRC.

I've used a GoPro as a dashcam for work -- I actually needed to film the road -- and it worked great at 720p. Excellent FOV with little noticeable fish-eye effect. Think the camera said it could record 2.5 hours at 720p. Pretty good battery life, but may as well plug the USB cable into the car for no limit.

Yet another reason to wait at least 3-5 seconds to check for cars trying to beat the red light. SOP for me. :\

HAha... far different from my SOP.

If I see a red light from far out and there are no cars behind me I'll slow down way before I get to the light so I don't have to stop. The trick is to maximize your top speed as you roll through the light. The question is: What will it turn green? It's a fun risk/reward game!

New Jersey red light RULE: After the light turns red the next 3 cars can still go. 🙂

G1W-C does NOT have a 140 degree lens... Only the G1W-H.

Here is the G1W-H at g e a r b e s t . com/car-dvr/pp_16927.html, use coupon code ozcardvr to bring the current $50.99 price down to $39.99. I bought 2 and will probably get them in a couple weeks. Verified not fake by sd'ers in a huge thread with loads of info on this, and GearB has been active in the thread as well. Thread is currently in Dealtalk because deal briefly died before they made the coupon active again.
