I think we all need dash cams-> Car accident

You would think insurance companies would be tripping over themselves to pay us to put one in our cars. You get discount for having a useless noise making alarm but nothing for having a dashcam that would save a lot more than the cost of the car.

Problem is it can be used against YOU as well.

Penn national insurance, a slimy dirty POS insurance company, has denied my claim several times over BS reasons. If I or the other driver had a camera it would have been over quicker. But that means they can't play the delay game and hope I go away if a camera was involved. I have not and go back to court soon. But many others would give up and insurance companies plan for that.

Insurance companies look out for themselves, not you.

was recently $38 so I'd wait for another drop.

The only thing I don't like about these cams today is the long power cable you'd have to stretch from your cig lighter straight up to your rear-view mirror since they only have a 5-min battery life if unplugged. Is that how people are doing it for real?

wow.. was $38 last week?!
now $50 🙁

I might get the upgraded version with 140 degree view and rear view mirror attachment (instead of windshield suction cup, which always drops my GPS)

I got one when we picked up my new car. Its a cheap investment. Better than insurance. Even saved me from a cop one night.

Bastard pulled me over, said I ran a red. I showed him the video. Thanks to the wide angle lens it clearly displayed a yellow as I went under.

I just received and installed a G1W-C (amazon$55). It came with the rear view mirror attachment. I did not want a battery version due to the problem with heat. I am going to just leave it mounted all the time. The biggest problem is changing the menu to English! After that it is simple to operate.

My wife captured this with my dash cam in the Tundra (G1W). Its hidden, the cable routed between the edge of the headliner and roof, down the A pillar (under the plastic cover), and then under the dash, over the steering column, and comes out right by the cigarette lighter.

Could easily be a "he said, she said" type of thing, however, this proves the person in the right lane crossed over and made a left hand turn without the driver in the left lane speeding up or anything.

Here's another I caught on the way to work a couple weeks ago.

I'm definitely going to get a dashcam when I get my new car in a couple weeks... an accident I was in over this past winter really scared me.

the lady who hit me was 100% at fault. I was stopped at a red light, she was parked next to me and attempting to pull out in front of me rather than waiting for me to leave before pulling out of her space... in doing so, she misjudged the width of the tank she was driving and tore my bumper to hell. when the cop arrived, though, she claimed that she didn't hit me at all and that the damage on both of our cars was preexisting.

I just have to find one that doesn't completely stick out... I don't want to invite a crackhead to smash my windows just to steal a $50 cam.

her paint on your bumper made it obvious, i hope?

yeah, I was declared not at fault for the accident... her insurance paid for giving me a new bumper and fixing headlight/foglight damage; last I saw her car, she still hadn't repaired the 3' scratch along the side from where she scraped up against my bumper (because obv, it wasn't enough to just hit me... after I honked my horn she kept driving)

still, it made me fearful until the accident report was released. you never know the power that a crying girl might have over a cop.

Some 64GB cards have been working if formated with a SD utility.
64GB cards come formatted exFat the G1W only supports fat32. The utility will format a 64 to fat32. Not all cards work though.

The 140 degree wide angle is the G1WH version. It has a battery.
Some G1W? versions (I don't know which) have a larger battery

Blueskysea/BAIKLOV vendor had the best rep. I could find.

****** OPINION *******
BELOW IS "MY" BELIEF BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH ANOTHER PRODUCT. THIS IS NOT KNOWN TO BE TRUE!
I think AMZ Prime was shipping from another vendor if the listed vendor is out of stock. So, you may not get it from the listed vendor. The vendors learned this and got listed then will ship a "fake" when Prime used them as a back up.
******* END OF OPINION *******

******* THE FACTS JACK*******
If you don't get the proper product AMZ will bend over backwards to correct the situation.

I don't consider this a problem when ordering from Amazon. I did not order through Prime because I was not in a hurry and the price difference paid for the SD card.🙂 I went with a 4GB card.

Amazon Prime has been wonderful in correcting any problems. I have only had 2 problems ever in several years both were fixed fast.

oh.. there's a 3rd g1w model?
thought only 2... 120 and 140 degree versions.
didn't know about the batteryless version.
THX for the info!

I have a 8gig class 6 microsd. will that suffice in the speed needed to record 24fps at 720p?

It will work fine. In fact, sometimes they say the slower class cards work better in these cameras. I'm using a class 10 16 or 32 gig card and have no issues with it.

hm.. 32gig sd at 1080p = only 4 1/2hrs record time?!

if I'm using 720p, will I be able to see the license plate clearly?
