I've been living with this new roommate for about 3 months now, and at first I thought he was a pretty cool guy, but lately he's just been so dishonest about everything and has done some insanely stupid shit that I'm just getting tired of it and I'm really wondering what he's not telling me. I was wondering what you guys think...
He signed a 6 month lease in December to stay through until June. He was supposed to move in a week before Christmas, but didn't. I tried calling him to find out what was up, and his phone was off. Repeated attempts at contacting him were a no go. Finally a week later I got a call from his mother saying he was in the hospital for food poisoning, and he'd be here next weekend. Alright.
So next weekend rolls by and he moves in. Cool. Except he didn't have his car with him this time. When I asked about that, he tells me he really wasn't in the hospital for food poisoning, he was sitting in jail for a few days because of a DUI and his car was towed.
Naturally this inspires an "wtf...." response out of me, and he explains that he was at a friends place partying and upon leaving, went to sleep in his car to sleep off the alcohol, but left his keys in the ignition and a passing police officer must have gone by at one point, noticed he was sleeping, investigated, found a beer bottle outside his car door and saw him sleeping in the drivers seat with the keys in the ignition, so he was arrested.
Alright, that's pretty ridiculous, but I'll run with that. I do live by a party school so stories like that aren't really rare. Stupid move by him, but what can you do. Well, I thought that was going to be the end of it. Apparently not.
I find out a week later his license got suspended. Apparently he had gotten a DUI 4 years ago, and two DUIs within 5 years = you lose your license for 18 months here. He says he is going to get a workers permit license, since he's still going to school and we live 8 miles from campus. K.
End of January I find out that he can't get a workers permit, or so he says. I asked him why, because I've known people with multiple DUIs who were able to get permits. He says he didn't want to tell me, but there was actually a felony attached to his DUI. He claims he left his handgun unsecured laying in the back seat of his car, and got a felony for it. Now this is starting to get fucked up...
Beginning of February, he tells me he's going to court regarding the DUI and the felony, but that his lawyer will be able to get both dropped. Just a few days ago he tells me that he didn't want to tell me, but that he got in his final offer at court and it was for 13 months in prison and DUI rehab.
I'm in disbelief at this point and pretty pissed off at this guy. I can't trust him anymore. I also don't understand how he's getting 13 months of prison from the story he told me, unless this really is what the law would mandate in this situation. He claims when he was arrested he blew 0s, and that there is no reason to be given a 13 month prison sentence for sleeping in your car and leaving your gun out. Yeah? Then what did you do to deserve 13 months in prison that you're not telling me then?
I need to get the hell out of here...
