I think my roommate is bs'ing me

I've been living with this new roommate for about 3 months now, and at first I thought he was a pretty cool guy, but lately he's just been so dishonest about everything and has done some insanely stupid shit that I'm just getting tired of it and I'm really wondering what he's not telling me. I was wondering what you guys think...

He signed a 6 month lease in December to stay through until June. He was supposed to move in a week before Christmas, but didn't. I tried calling him to find out what was up, and his phone was off. Repeated attempts at contacting him were a no go. Finally a week later I got a call from his mother saying he was in the hospital for food poisoning, and he'd be here next weekend. Alright.

So next weekend rolls by and he moves in. Cool. Except he didn't have his car with him this time. When I asked about that, he tells me he really wasn't in the hospital for food poisoning, he was sitting in jail for a few days because of a DUI and his car was towed.

Naturally this inspires an "wtf...." response out of me, and he explains that he was at a friends place partying and upon leaving, went to sleep in his car to sleep off the alcohol, but left his keys in the ignition and a passing police officer must have gone by at one point, noticed he was sleeping, investigated, found a beer bottle outside his car door and saw him sleeping in the drivers seat with the keys in the ignition, so he was arrested.

Alright, that's pretty ridiculous, but I'll run with that. I do live by a party school so stories like that aren't really rare. Stupid move by him, but what can you do. Well, I thought that was going to be the end of it. Apparently not.

I find out a week later his license got suspended. Apparently he had gotten a DUI 4 years ago, and two DUIs within 5 years = you lose your license for 18 months here. He says he is going to get a workers permit license, since he's still going to school and we live 8 miles from campus. K.

End of January I find out that he can't get a workers permit, or so he says. I asked him why, because I've known people with multiple DUIs who were able to get permits. He says he didn't want to tell me, but there was actually a felony attached to his DUI. He claims he left his handgun unsecured laying in the back seat of his car, and got a felony for it. Now this is starting to get fucked up...

Beginning of February, he tells me he's going to court regarding the DUI and the felony, but that his lawyer will be able to get both dropped. Just a few days ago he tells me that he didn't want to tell me, but that he got in his final offer at court and it was for 13 months in prison and DUI rehab.

I'm in disbelief at this point and pretty pissed off at this guy. I can't trust him anymore. I also don't understand how he's getting 13 months of prison from the story he told me, unless this really is what the law would mandate in this situation. He claims when he was arrested he blew 0s, and that there is no reason to be given a 13 month prison sentence for sleeping in your car and leaving your gun out. Yeah? Then what did you do to deserve 13 months in prison that you're not telling me then?

I need to get the hell out of here...

Acting on a complaint, and since you were offline, I shortened one word in your title.

Glad you asked!

1) Yes, he's subletting the room from me. I have a lease for the entire place, and live in the other room.

2) He sits at home all day moping about not having a car.

3) He drinks all my beer and then tells people I'm an alcoholic when I drink maybe a few beers a week. Thanks?

4) Speaking of #2, he constantly bugs me for car rides to go to bars. He never attempts to ride a bike, go to a bus, or walk to get anywhere even though he's supposedly so miserable without a car.

5) He's clearly lying to me because he adds a new piece to his story every 2 weeks it seems.

6) Going with #5, if there are more things he isn't telling me, I might not be very safe inside my own place now.

7) He tries to call me or text me all the time when I'm not home asking where I am. This is starting to both really piss me off as well as make me slightly unnerved.

8) Kind of late but going back to #3 he's drunk a lot and it makes him extremely obnoxious. I get stressed out by just the thought of coming home and the feeling sucks.

All in all, yes I'm bitching, but it's not a positive situation by any stretch

*Edit*
Sorry if I'm coming off as a bit snappy, I apologize Caveman. I'm just a bit stressed is all.

people who have chronic fuck-up issues tend to drag down those around them. They spread this shit like cancer, slinging their drama and personal/mental problems about. Especially when cohabiting.

Well I don't own the place, so I had to talk to my leasing agency, and they don't seem to care. As far as they're concerned, he's on the lease until June 30th or until he gets thrown in prison.

Get him the fuck out. How is this even a question anymore? He's drunk, spends his time at bars, mooches your shit, and generally gives you no reason to trust him.

Then boot him.

/thread

that's what I'm talkin about.. Fuck feeling uncomfortable in your own home. That's some bullshit and you shouldn't have to put up with it.

I really hope you don't run into legal troubles when you kick his ass to the curb.

Watagump: Sorry 😛

Eviction laws in Florida are rough as far as I've been told and researched. You either have to stop paying your rent, shut off utilities to others, deny access to the premises, destroy property of the premises, or break an agreement in the lease. Working with my leasing agency here, but they aren't being helpful.

Also, not sure if I forgot to mention but I don't own the place, I just rent it. Not sure if that makes any difference.

*Edit*

Actually the biggest reason why I made this thread was that I was curious if anyone knew if he could really get 13 months in prison for what he did in his story, or if he was possibly not telling me something else he did.

AHHH! I see. Makes sense, i think?

So about 99% of the issue is personal...you don't always need to like your roommate. If his lease is up though get him out. If you are afraid of him hire someone to help.

It should be noted that the courts cannot suspend/revoke your license before you are convicted. They take your physical license, but give you a paper that acts as your license before you get sentenced.

Cut your losses and move on.

Roommate is moset definitely an alcoholic.

I would secure your valuables, think move them to storage, as he has nothing to lose. So robbing you and making your life miserable is really nothing to him as he will be in jail soon.

I would also hide you car keys so he is never tempted to steal your car.

Better to be on the paranoid safe side than be fvcked over by this deadbeat loser.

WTF? this is VERY WRONG FOR DUI in most areas.

While varies with area, but it's about the same with DUI before your court date your vehicle is booted for the first 10 days or so. You cannot drive for the first 30...after that you can get a work permit. You cannot go anywhere else for the 180 days to 1 year.

13 months jail seems more like a 3rd DUI + probably something else tacked on...here a 3rd DUI in 10 years is a 10 year license suspension, 2 in 5 years is a 5 year suspension.

If you try to contest your arrest you cannot drive at all until you are acquitted or sentenced...no work permit...no nothing.

I don't see how that's legal. Innocent until proven guilty?

I have had 3 DUI's and always got the ol' paper. Hopefully I will never have to go through that mess again.

because DUI law falls under a separate category..you also get two trials technically which is double-jeopardy....

here is a write up http://www.azduiatty.com/due-p...icense-suspensions.htm

What state are you talking though...maybe they are very different.
