So, besides regular excersise, putting some food in your mouth at the start of the day gets your metabolism off to a good start. Even if you aren't that hungry during the morning, do it anyways.

Bleh. I don't know about you, but I can't eat for like 3 hours after I wake up. My stomach has to slowly turn on.

Breakfast is like anything - you get used to it.

Eat more often in smaller portions and exercise.

and drink lots of water.

that's about all you can do

Davegod75 is right, assuming we're talking about your weight here, but maybe you should ask your doctor if habit-forming stimulants are right for you.

No really the water thing is freal, you can't metabolize fat w/ out plenty of water, and think about whatyou eat too.

If you are talking about a thyroid problem, then yes, you might require medication...
That's very true. Getting a proper blood test might be the first step - then look into adjusting the food intake and exercise plans.

To all the Jackasses that think I do nothing well I say to thee FUVK YOU! I work 7hr days on my feet all day picking up 60-80 pound boxes or grading shirts. The last 2 months I have lost so much weight that my pants dont fit any more & I have no time to go buy new ones. I drink a lot of water but my metabolism is not what it used to be, it is too slow. That is why I asked if there is a pill.

Exercise and eat breakfast - if you already eat breakfast then eating more often and in smaller quantitites may help.

Bad advice...your body burns the most calories right when you get up...if anything you should do all your working out, running, situps whatever right after you get up....

I haven't eaten breakfast in years...of course when I get to work I eat a bag of chips but this is like an hour and a half after I get up

so you have lost tons of weight in the last 2 months but your metabolism is too slow? Why don't you try and make some sense if you don't want to get ridiculed. BTW, exercise & eat less.

Hydroxycut...I was always afraid of goign on those cause it would kill my metabolism...
That and it seemed whenever I ran if I stopped my metabolism would go to sh1t and I'd put on a little bit of fat immediately. So, my solution to this problem was just to never do cardio cause I knew if I did it I'd have to keep it up.

Chill, boy! 😉

Anyway, it slows as you age, and that's just something you'll have to live with.

The first thing you need to do is get off ATOT, because posting won't help speeding up your metabolism. Then go find a fun activity that you enjoy, and do it. Once you're used to being active, then start working out, slowly at first, and increase intensity as your body can handle. Don't try to push too hard because you will give up. Don't expect result overnight, it would take you at least a year to see any real pay off for your work, so don't get discouraged. Take picture of yourself every month to compare results, your mirror won't see much.

Some body here has mentioned eat smaller portions, but more frequently, yes. Clean out your fridge of fattening food, and buy healthier stuffs. If you don't have to sleep early, stay up a little later and wake up earlier than you had to. The main key is if you are really motivated to get your self in shape... well, here's some movitations for you. Imagine the possibilities... 😉

You have to trick/confuse your body in order to avoid the starvation slowdown issue. Some days I eat a lot, some days I eat a little, some days I eat nothing. It helps to keep your body from coming to expect a certain number of calories per day.

If you're losing weight like there's no tomorrow, what are you complaining about?

1) Get real exercise. Just because you pick up boxes and grade shirts (man, shirt-grading is great cardio! :roll😉 doesn't mean your body is getting a real workout.

2) Eat better. Many foods cause your body to retain fat and water, or slow down your metabolism. Also, if you don't eat ENOUGH then your body will slow its metabolism to deal with it.

3) Lift weights. More lean muscle = more calories burned = higher metabolism.

if you maintain a relatively healthy lifestyle with eating and excercise and you still feel like your metabolism has dropped then you might want to check it out with your doc. It could be a thryoid problem.

other things to look out for are fatigue and general lethargy. Forgetfullness and maybe even depression, and irritability.

just thought I would throw that out there, if you have experianced these things recently maybe a check-up is in order.

but if you are just a lazy mofo then go excercise!

Lifting is the key...you burn more calories just sitting there. My roommate keeps saying if he ate like me he'd be a fatass but it's cause lifting burns a lot more calories. That and I don't know if this helps but I'm always shaking my foot or fidgeting with pens and chewing gum. Someone told me that burns a lot of calories throughout the day...I just can't really sit still though. Downing a lot of water seems to help too...it makes you feel full..I mean I'll eat giant meals but I think I drink 5 or 6 cups of water with each meal.

a) how about providing age/height/weight/sex/bf%, then some generalizations could be made

b) you have lost pants sizes yet are complaining about slow metabolism 😕

c) as you age, your BMR decreases (how old are you?). As you lose weight, your BMR decreases (how much did you lose?)

d) if there was this magic FUVKing pill for all us Jackasses of the world, don't you think it would be HUGE MAJOR HEADLINE news?

Some people are tuned that way, they fidget and unconciously burn calories. That's part of what can give a person a "high metabolism". I have heard of anorexics doing this as well, but to conciously think about burning calories in that manner all day long seems like a lot of work to me.

The water trick is a good one, you can keep the stomach full with 0 calories. It also helps you from mistaking thirst for hunger, which can happen if you're not paying attention and just mindlessly going to the kitchen for munchies.

What exactly makes you feel you metabolism is not high enough? Heart rate? Energy? Obviously, it's not a weight issue. You may just be getting older. If you really think there is a problem, try having your thyroid levels checked. Otherwise, a pill is not the way to go. I had a hyperthyroid condition, and having a metabolism higher than what your body is made for is not a good idea.

That is snake oil. Coming from someone who has lost 100lbs in the last 6months, the only way to increase your metabolism is exercise and a healthy diet. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY, there is no EASY way out.
