I'm paying $60 a month that includes phone. Time Warner has 30mb down for $60 for 6 month just without a phone. Not like I need it anyways (GS3). I wonder if this will post with speeds like this? lol

WINDSTREAM FUCKING SUCKS.

had them as my DSL provider for 5 years. read around the net, NO ONE likes them. their ratings on feedback sites is ATROCIOUS. i've called over 40 times(all noted and documented) this year alone and i still have the same fucking problems. their tech support(level 1) are a bunch of fucking morons. it's the only provider i have access to unfortunately. i've given up hope for them and have just dealt with their business of fraud they seem to be perfectly fine running. i'm moving soon closer into town and will get cable then. the day after i get a new connect i'm shitting in a taco bell bag along with a nice detailed letter explaining my problems that were never addressed yet they had no problem billing me for service they weren't giving me.

fuck you windstream. your incompetent tech support employees hate their job i'm sure. i do not get the service i pay for. i haven't not received the service i pay for in 2+ years.

again, FUCK you windstream.

i have windstream where i work which is BLAZING fast, 1000kb dl(fast to me). i know my company pays for a business line but does the $60/month i pay not give me the right to the same fucking routes? i ping 90+ from home to a chicago server i play a game on. i get a SMOOTH 28ms ping from work.

that's bull shit.

You sure something isn't just messed up on your end? Try plugging right in, rather than a router? My router goes nuts and slows way down all the time and needs a reboot.

I haven't seen speeds that slow (outside of dialup) since my high school's dsl in '94.

This is my speed from my room. I'm limited by the hospital's shitty 2000s-era wifi. If I had an ethernet jack in the room I'd have access to the gigabit connection. Still, I have symmetrical internet.

If you're allowed, install a USB 802.11n or faster adapter on a hardwired machine and use internet connection sharing + ad hoc.

Zing! full speeds.

Anyone here doubting that Windstream both sucks and blows should just head on over to their forum on dslreports.com.

Yes its a joke. I'm not explaining my problems(its on here recently if you want). I used to get great service from them when they first bought the company.

Ouch.

Meanwhile, FiOS is finally in my area after years of waiting. Not that it was bad here (15/5 on Optimum Online), but FiOS Quantum (50/25) will be a nice boost. Getting it installed next Friday. :)

I have speeds about that fast over the phone. When I am verbally reciting the binary to a person on the other end writing it down.

Also, for home phone if you are not using OOMA you are doing it wrong. Get OOMA and a real ISP and live life better!

Any advantage of using OOMA versus MagicJack with Google Voice (GVJackApp)?

I'm visiting my parents right now and they are on windstream DSL. Boy howdy does it suck.

The first night something must have been up on their end since we were getting like 200-300ms ping and only 1.5mb down. Today, speeds are more normal at 20-30ms and 5.5-6.0 mbps down.

However, now the problem is some sites don't even load, and on facebook, most images aren't loading. I don't know what the problem is. I've rebooted modem/router multiple times.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can possibly fix this on my end?

I'll have to agree that Windstream sucks. My grandmother had a dsl modem through them. It stopped working, they said to replace it would be $75, she said fine. They then sent her a dsl modem and charged her $150 instead on her bill, saying they didn't have anymore of the $75 ones so they had to charge her $150.

She sent it back, cancelled her telephone and dsl through them, and went with time warner for both, and now has a 3 Mb internet connection for the same price as the 256Kb/s dsl through Windstream which was horrible.

Sure the price on Time Warner will probably go up, but at least shes not on horrible dsl anymore.

If you are listening Windstream, it would have been a better idea to eat the extra $75 for the dsl modem, now you will lose about $6000 over the next 10 years or so.

Change your DNS

DNS

OpenDNS offers DNS resolution as an alternative to using Internet service providers' DNS servers. There are OpenDNS servers in strategic locations, and they also employ a large cache of the domain names.[citation needed] OpenDNS has adopted and supports DNSCurve.[5]
OpenDNS provides the following recursive nameserver addresses[6] for public use, mapped to the nearest operational server location by anycast routing:

  • 208.67.222.222 (resolver1.opendns.com)
  • 208.67.220.220 (resolver2.opendns.com)
  • 208.67.222.220 [6]
  • 208.67.220.222 [6]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_DNS

Other features include a phishing filter, domain blocking and typo correction (for example, typing "example.og" instead of "example.org"). OpenDNS maintains a list of malicious sites and blocks access to them when a user tries to access them through their service. OpenDNS also run a service called PhishTank for users to submit and review suspected phishing sites.

I just went from Time Warner's "standard" 15/1 to their "extreme" 30/5 tier and am pretty happy. They issue you a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and I think that makes a big difference, especially when my previous was a DOCSIS 1.1 w/ voice bridge (which I still have hooked up for phone service - I wonder if I could use it to run a separate 15mbit link).

Shitty tactic on Windstream's part, but to be honest, you (assuming that you're more tech-savvy than her) could've got her a used modem on ebay or something for cheap. Windstream doesn't require anything proprietary on their modems (they may ship with something funky these days, but they don't require it, if you can find the details of your PPPoE connection either from the old modem or somebody with the same service.)

Wasn't aware of that, good to know.

My grandma was so mad over the $200+ phone bill there was no way I could talk her into keeping Windstream, anyways.

I have the 10 Mbps service from Time Warner - here is the result.

For another $15/month I can go to the 30 Mbps service but not feeling the need right now.

This.
How long has it been since you re-booted your router?

How long has it been since you restarted your computer?
