I paid $1860 for my Panny AE700 about 3 moths ago, I absolutely love it, but apparently the best bu right now on a projector is the Sanyo Z4. It looks super sweet, they've really out done themselves this round buy giving the new projectors a contrast ratio over 5000:1 (in dynamic iris mode) also you'll want a good zoom lens on your projector because you only have a short throw distance. I've got a 96" screen and it looks great.

For those of you who are knowledgable on projectors: What is a good buy in the low end range? For a budget setup in a small rom, not watching anything but DVD's from a regular 480p player? Just kicking around the idea.

As far as the OP, have you decided yet? It seems like you are inches away from a purchase, let us know how it turns out.

You should start with at least an approximate budget number, then pick the best projector to match.

Infocus 4805 gets me good results
example

Optoma H31 has similar specs and is another budget one.

Refurb 4805s with a screen and a matrix dvd set were going for $699 at woot the other day.

Sorry maybe my question is too vague. I'm just wondering if there are any low budget projectors that are worth getting, or do you have to get a nicer one to make it worth looking at. For budget-- maybe $500-800? I don't know....
