Well the 2500K was released January 2011, while the Maximus IV Gene3 was released in the Fall of 2011. I'm sure it would have the correct BIOS.
This isn't just a stock photo mixup. The seller under comments lists it as a lightly used 2500k! This Buyer had every right to rely on that ad. Go through the Ebay system and hopefully this Seller will make the right call. That's a shame. I never really trusted stock photos. I would rather demand actual photos of the things that I'm buying with time stamp. Without the K you're losing a better IGP, HD2000 on the Core i5 2500 and HD3000 on the K version. Also, the overclockability which is the feature that most look forward to when purchasing this chip.
Well i filed a claim with Paypal...i also contacted the seller and here is a copy of his message back...
HIM- It is in fact a 2500k. I know that by how it looks u think its not. I had the same thoughts. I bought that new from newegg.com. Once installed i was able to see that was what I had ordered. If u install it u will see the same. And like i said i had it overclocked to 4.0 and was limited by my test board. With a better board and good cooling it could easily hit 4.6 and watercooling would more then likey see 5.0 and up.
ME-I have it installed with my Asus maximums mono and watercooling. The system settings is commingle up as a i5-2500. And it cannot be overclocked I truer the CPU is locked by Intel is what its saying. I also posted copies of my CPU info on anandtech forums and they all said its not a k series. This CPU is useless to me due to it being locked and UN overclockable.
HIM- Well either u r doing something wrong or have a board issue. I had it on both the gigabyte board and the asus maximus v formual board with no issues of overclock on either board. If i still had the screen shots from class i would send u them but that was 2 months ago's. I bought both boards to class for show of how different boards have different limitions. And r u sure that u r using the lga1155 socket board? Because i like said at home and even in class i have never had an issue other then the gigabyte limits to overclock.
that is about it......
My setup:
Asus Maximus IV Gen3/Version 2
128G SSD
Radeon 5770
Corsair Watercooling
Patriot Viper DDR3 RAM 18xxxHRZ
Windows 7 64bit
i can see by his "answers" that his is dodging my questions or nto even reading them...i stated in my first reply that i had a ASUS maximus IV Mobo...he keeps asking what kind of Mobo i have...
they do within 24 hrs once confirmed delivered by tracking
P.S: since i am going to need to put down new thermal compound...what is the BEST! i mean BEST!
~UPDATE~
glad to say paypal as rules in my favor or i am to get my money back! Now im looking at the I5-3570K to replace the I5-2500K. Is there a huge diffrence between the both?
ALSO paypal said it would refund my money when i send them a tracking number...how long after does it take for paypal to send me the money back?
P.S: since i am going to need to put down new thermal compound...what is the BEST! i mean BEST!
where u buying from there about the same price every where.ok so now wich is best the I5-3570K or I5-2500K and what is the diffrence and is it worth the extra 50 bucks?
newegg bro.
3570k is 199$ pair it with a gigabyte z77 d3 board 99$ or an asrock exterme 4 z77 for 104$
so back the question
wich of the 2 I5's is worth the money? what makes the higher model one better than the 2500k?
LOL i love how the ebay ad said this cpu has never been clocked over 4.0ghz... yet he said he was running it at 4.6-5.0ghz on water.
Man... sketchy ass seller... the only time the seller is allowed to be sketchy is when im the seller selling to my friends.
My friends will all tell you, im the shaddiest bastard they ever met, with uber long shipping times!!!
oh wait.. i just killed all the people who i want to sell to now huh?
