Has anyone lived in a developing country?

When I lived in Bangkok Thailand there were stray dogs everywhere! They are called Soi dogs because they hang out on the side streets which are called Soi in Thailand. Anyway, I'd walk down a side street by myself and I'd encounter 4-5 dogs. It was ridiculous and scary. I'd pretend to pick up a rock when one would approach. I started to carry a retractable baton and that worked really well. Pull that bitch out and they scattered.

Rabies is a big problem in Thailand. When you're wearing flip flops and shorts you don't have much to cover your skin when a dog goes in for the bite. They are sneaky as well. I worked with a teacher and he was sitting on his motor bike. A Soi dog crept up, bit him on his ankle and ran away.

I didn't see any stray dogs while I was in South Korea. Only stray cats. But, they didn't bother you.

After having both, I prefer no pets.
No barking, poop, pee, hair, stench, vet bills, walks, fights with other animals, etc.
Yeah I kinda feel the same way as you. We have an 11 yo cat. She pukes her food up on the carpet and likes to pee on the dirty laundry. We have a 6 yo Collie. She likes to bark at everything, smells kinda funny every once in awhile, sheds all the time....ect. You already know this though.

I guess I'm just not an animal in the house person but my wife and 2 kids like it so whatcha gonna do...

After all our animals died I just didn't replace them. Currently have no animals and it's just fantastic. Never have to find a pet sitter, or worry about finding presents around the house. Or having to get a smelly "pet-friendly" hotel room when you travel.

I have three dogs, one cat, one lizard, about 20 birds (turkeys, chickens, and ducks), and I'm getting some goats soon. They require effort, sure, but I also enjoy having them, so it's a positive experience overall. It's really not that much work to be honest, so I don't care anyway.
