BSD = Berkely Software Distribution. It IS Unix.
If you need BSD, you run BSD. But should you run FreeBSD? NetBSD? OpenBSD? OS X?
You might well have said "If you need linux, you run linux. Not Redhat." >>
I run BSD son, I know what it is. I did not feel the need to point out the different releases of BSD. My statement was very generic. Should I round it down and say, if you want to run a webserver, run fbsd 4.4stabe with apache 1.3.22. If you want a secure install, choose obsd. So you pointing that out was useless.
My comparison was OSX to BSD. OSX != BSD.
*nix refers to linux, usually not BSD. Although it could be included in that all encompassing term.
Excuse my minor mishap. I was pointing out that OSX is not "*nix" done right.
